Then it happened as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David that Michal the daughter of Saul looked out of the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD ; and she despised him in her heart.
"For the sake of Your word, and according to Your own heart, You have done all this greatness to let Your servant know.
"For You, O LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, have made a revelation to Your servant, saying, 'I will build you a house '; therefore Your servant has found courage to pray this prayer to You.
Then Absalom her brother said to her, "Has Amnon your brother been with you? But now keep silent, my sister, he is your brother; do not take this matter to heart." So Tamar remained and was desolate in her brother Absalom's house.
Absalom commanded his servants, saying, "See now, when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, 'Strike Amnon,' then put him to death. Do not fear; have not I myself commanded you? Be courageous and be valiant ."
"Now therefore, do not let my lord the king take the report to heart, namely, 'all the king's sons are dead,' for only Amnon is dead."
Now Joab the son of Zeruiah perceived that the king's heart was inclined toward Absalom.
In this manner Absalom dealt with all Israel who came to the king for judgment; so Absalom stole away the hearts of the men of Israel.
Then a messenger came to David, saying, "The hearts of the men of Israel are with Absalom."
"And even the one who is valiant , whose heart is like the heart of a lion, will completely lose heart; for all Israel knows that your father is a mighty man and those who are with him are valiant men.
But the people said, "You should not go out; for if we indeed flee, they will not care about us; even if half of us die, they will not care about us. But you are worth ten thousand of us; therefore now it is better that you be ready to help us from the city."
Then Joab said, "I will not waste time here with you." So he took three spears in his hand and thrust them through the heart of Absalom while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.
"Now therefore arise, go out and speak kindly to your servants, for I swear by the LORD , if you do not go out, surely not a man will pass the night with you, and this will be worse for you than all the evil that has come upon you from your youth until now."
So he said to the king, "Let not my lord consider me guilty, nor remember what your servant did wrong on the day when my lord the king came out from Jerusalem, so that the king would take it to heart.
Now David's heart troubled him after he had numbered the people. So David said to the LORD , "I have sinned greatly in what I have done. But now, O LORD , please take away the iniquity of Your servant, for I have acted very foolishly."
