13
For 1the promise to Abrahamor to his adescendants2that he would be heir of the world was not bthrough the Law, but through the righteousness of faith.
14
For 3ifthose who are cof the Law are heirs, faith is madevoid and the promise is nullified ;
15
for 4the Lawbringsaboutwrath, but 5where there is nolaw, there also is noviolation.
16
For thisreason it is dby faith, in order that it may be in accordance with 6grace, so that the promise will be guaranteed to 7all the edescendants, not only to fthose who are of the Law, but also to g8those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is 9the father of us all,
17
(as it is written, "10A FATHER OF MANYNATIONS HAVE I MADE YOU") in the presence of Him whom he believed, even God, 11who giveslife to the dead and h12calls into being13that which does not exist.
18
In hopeagainsthope he believed, so that he might become14a father of manynationsaccording to that which had been spoken, "15SO SHALL YOUR iDESCENDANTS BE."
19Withoutbecomingweak in faith he contemplated his ownbody, now 16as good as dead since 17he was about a hundredyearsold, and 18the deadness of Sarah'swomb ;
20yet, with respect to the promise of God, he did not waver in unbelief but grewstrong in faith, 19givingglory to God,
21
and 20being fullyassured that 21what God had promised, He was ablealso to perform.
22Therefore22IT WAS ALSOCREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS.
23Now23not for his sakeonly was it written that it was credited to him,
24
but for our sakealso, to whom it will be credited, as those24who believe in Him who 25raisedJesus our Lord from the dead,
25
He who was 26delivered over because of our transgressions, and was 27raisedbecause of our justification.
