2
that I have greatsorrow and unceasinggrief in my heart.
3
For 1I could awish that I myself were 2accursed, separated from Christ for the sake of my brethren, my kinsmen3according to the flesh,
4who are 4Israelites, to whom belongs 5the adoption as sons, and 6the glory and 7the covenants and 8the giving of the Law and 9the temple service and 10the promises,
5whose are 11the fathers, and 12from whom is bthe Christaccording to the flesh, 13who is overall, 14God15blessedcforever. Amen.
6
But it is not as though16the word of God has failed. 17For they are not allIsraelwho are descended from Israel ;
7nor are they allchildren18because they are Abraham'sddescendants, but: "e19THROUGHISAAC YOUR fDESCENDANTS WILL BE NAMED."
8
That is, it is not the children of the fleshwho are 20children of God, but the 21children of the promise are regarded as gdescendants.
9
For this is the word of promise : "22AT THISTIME I WILL COME, AND SARAH SHALL HAVE A SON."
1023And not only this, but there was 24Rebekahalso, when she had conceived twins by oneman, our fatherIsaac ;
11
for though the twins were not yetborn and had not doneanythinggoodorbad, so that 25God'spurposeaccording to His choice would hstand, not ibecause of works but jbecause of Him who calls,
12
it was said to her, "26THE OLDER WILL SERVE THE YOUNGER."
