Psalms 37:27

27 Stop doing evil and do good, so you will live forever.

Psalms 37:27 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 37:27

Depart from evil, and do good
Depart from evildoers, and their evil ways; join not with them, nor fret and be envious at them; but do acts of beneficence, and all good works; since righteous men, and their seed, are not forsaken, but blessed of God; (See Gill on Psalms 34:14);

and dwell for evermore;
or "thou shalt dwell for evermore" F26; see ( Psalms 37:3 ) ; that is, in everlasting habitations, in the house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens, ( Luke 16:9 ) ( 2 Corinthians 5:1 ) . The Targum is, "that thou mayest dwell in everlasting life".

Psalms 37:27 In-Context

25 I was young, and now I am old, but I have never seen good people left helpless or their children begging for food.
26 Good people always lend freely to others, and their children are a blessing.
27 Stop doing evil and do good, so you will live forever.
28 The Lord loves justice and will not leave those who worship him. He will always protect them, but the children of the wicked will die.
29 Good people will inherit the land and will live in it forever.
