When they heard this, the people in the synagogue were furious.
Jumping up, they mobbed him and forced him to the edge of the hill on which the town was built. They intended to push him over the cliff,
but he passed right through the crowd and went on his way.
At that point they picked up stones to throw at him. But Jesus was hidden from them and left the Temple.
Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?”
“Our father is Abraham!” they declared. “No,” Jesus replied, “for if you were really the children of Abraham, you would follow his example.8:39 Some manuscripts read if you are really the children of Abraham, follow his example.
