New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
So they brought the Ark of God into the special tent David had prepared for it, and they sacrificed burnt offerings and peace offerings before God. 1 They brought the ark of God and set it inside the tent that David had pitched for it, and they presented burnt offerings and fellowship offerings before God.
When he had finished, David blessed the people in the name of the LORD. 2 After David had finished sacrificing the burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD.
Then he gave a gift of food to every man and woman in Israel: a loaf of bread, a cake of dates, and a cake of raisins. 3 Then he gave a loaf of bread, a cake of dates and a cake of raisins to each Israelite man and woman.
David appointed the following Levites to lead the people in worship before the Ark of the LORD by asking for his blessings and giving thanks and praise to the LORD, the God of Israel. 4 He appointed some of the Levites to minister before the ark of the LORD, to make petition, to give thanks, and to praise the LORD, the God of Israel:
Asaph, the leader of this group, sounded the cymbals. His assistants were Zechariah (the second), then Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel. They played the harps and lyres. 5 Asaph was the chief, Zechariah second, then Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-Edom and Jeiel. They were to play the lyres and harps, Asaph was to sound the cymbals,
The priests, Benaiah and Jahaziel, played the trumpets regularly before the Ark of God's covenant. 6 and Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests were to blow the trumpets regularly before the ark of the covenant of God.
That day David gave to Asaph and his fellow Levites this song of thanksgiving to the LORD: 7 That day David first committed to Asaph and his associates this psalm of thanks to the LORD:
Give thanks to the LORD and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done. 8 Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done.
Sing to him; yes, sing his praises. Tell everyone about his miracles. 9 Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts.
Exult in his holy name; O worshipers of the LORD, rejoice! 10 Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice.
Search for the LORD and for his strength, and keep on searching. 11 Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always.
Think of the wonderful works he has done, the miracles, and the judgments he handed down, 12 Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced,
O children of Israel, God's servant, O descendants of Jacob, God's chosen one. 13 O descendants of Israel his servant, O sons of Jacob, his chosen ones.
He is the LORD our God. His rule is seen throughout the land. 14 He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth.
He always stands by his covenant -- the commitment he made to a thousand generations. 15 He remembers his covenant forever, the word he commanded, for a thousand generations,
This is the covenant he made with Abraham and the oath he swore to Isaac. 16 the covenant he made with Abraham, the oath he swore to Isaac.
He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, to the people of Israel as a never-ending treaty: 17 He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as an everlasting covenant:
"I will give you the land of Canaan as your special possession." 18 "To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion you will inherit."
He said this when they were few in number, a tiny group of strangers in Canaan. 19 When they were but few in number, few indeed, and strangers in it,
They wandered back and forth between nations, from one kingdom to another. 20 they wandered from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another.
Yet he did not let anyone oppress them. He warned kings on their behalf: 21 He allowed no man to oppress them; for their sake he rebuked kings:
"Do not touch these people I have chosen, and do not hurt my prophets." 22 "Do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm."
"Let the whole earth sing to the LORD! Each day proclaim the good news that he saves. 23 Sing to the LORD, all the earth; proclaim his salvation day after day.
Publish his glorious deeds among the nations. Tell everyone about the amazing things he does. 24 Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.
Great is the LORD! He is most worthy of praise! He is to be revered above all gods. 25 For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods.
The gods of other nations are merely idols, but the LORD made the heavens! 26 For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the LORD made the heavens.
Honor and majesty surround him; strength and beauty are in his dwelling. 27 Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy in his dwelling place.
O nations of the world, recognize the LORD, recognize that the LORD is glorious and strong. 28 Ascribe to the LORD, O families of nations, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength,
Give to the LORD the glory he deserves! Bring your offering and come to worship him. Worship the LORD in all his holy splendor. 29 ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name. Bring an offering and come before him; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness.
Let all the earth tremble before him. The world is firmly established and cannot be shaken. 30 Tremble before him, all the earth! The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved.
Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice! Tell all the nations that the LORD is king. 31 Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let them say among the nations, "The LORD reigns!"
Let the sea and everything in it shout his praise! Let the fields and their crops burst forth with joy! 32 Let the sea resound, and all that is in it; let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them!
Let the trees of the forest rustle with praise before the LORD! For he is coming to judge the earth. 33 Then the trees of the forest will sing, they will sing for joy before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth.
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever." 34 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.
"Cry out, 'Save us, O God of our salvation! Gather and rescue us from among the nations, so we can thank your holy name and rejoice and praise you.' 35 Cry out, "Save us, O God our Savior; gather us and deliver us from the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name, that we may glory in your praise."
"Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting!" And all the people shouted "Amen!" and praised the LORD. 36 Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Then all the people said "Amen" and "Praise the LORD."
David arranged for Asaph and his fellow Levites to minister regularly before the Ark of the LORD's covenant, doing whatever needed to be done each day. 37 David left Asaph and his associates before the ark of the covenant of the LORD to minister there regularly, according to each day's requirements.
This group included Obed-edom (son of Jeduthun), Hosah, and sixty-eight other Levites as gatekeepers. 38 He also left Obed-Edom and his sixty-eight associates to minister with them. Obed-Edom son of Jeduthun, and also Hosah, were gatekeepers.
Meanwhile, David stationed Zadok the priest and his fellow priests at the Tabernacle of the LORD on the hill of Gibeon, where they continued to minister before the LORD. 39 David left Zadok the priest and his fellow priests before the tabernacle of the LORD at the high place in Gibeon
They sacrificed the regular burnt offerings to the LORD each morning and evening on the altar set aside for that purpose, obeying everything written in the law of the LORD, which he had given to Israel. 40 to present burnt offerings to the LORD on the altar of burnt offering regularly, morning and evening, in accordance with everything written in the Law of the LORD, which he had given Israel.
David also appointed Heman, Jeduthun, and the others chosen by name to give thanks to the LORD, "for his faithful love endures forever." 41 With them were Heman and Jeduthun and the rest of those chosen and designated by name to give thanks to the LORD, "for his love endures forever."
They used their trumpets, cymbals, and other instruments to accompany the songs of praise to God. And the sons of Jeduthun were appointed as gatekeepers. 42 Heman and Jeduthun were responsible for the sounding of the trumpets and cymbals and for the playing of the other instruments for sacred song. The sons of Jeduthun were stationed at the gate.
Then all the people returned to their homes, and David returned home to bless his family. 43 Then all the people left, each for his own home, and David returned home to bless his family.
