Complete Jewish Bible (CJB) New International Version (NIV)
I may speak in the tongues of men, even angels; but if I lack love, I have become merely blaring brass or a cymbal clanging. 1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
I may have the gift of prophecy, I may fathom all mysteries, know all things, have all faith - enough to move mountains; but if I lack love, I am nothing. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
I may give away everything that I own, I may even hand over my body to be burned; but if I lack love, I gain nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient and kind, not jealous, not boastful, 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
not proud, rude or selfish, not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not gloat over other people's sins but takes its delight in the truth. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
Love always bears up, always trusts, always hopes, always endures. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never ends; but prophecies will pass, tongues will cease, knowledge will pass. 8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
For our knowledge is partial, and our prophecy partial; 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part,
but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass. 10 but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears.
When I was a child, I spoke like a child, thought like a child, argued like a child; now that I have become a man, I have finished with childish ways. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.
For now we see obscurely in a mirror, but then it will be face to face. Now I know partly; then I will know fully, just as God has fully known me. 12 Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
But for now, three things last trust, hope, love; and the greatest of these is love. 13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
