The Darby Translation (DBY) New International Version (NIV)
And *I*, when I came to you, brethren, came not in excellency of word, or wisdom, announcing to you the testimony of God. 1 When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence or superior wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.
For I did not judge [it well] to know anything among you save Jesus Christ, and *him* crucified. 2 For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.
And *I* was with you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling; 3 I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling.
and my word and my preaching, not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of [the] Spirit and of power; 4 My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power,
that your faith might not stand in men's wisdom, but in God's power. 5 so that your faith might not rest on men's wisdom, but on God's power.
But we speak wisdom among the perfect; but wisdom not of this world, nor of the rulers of this world, who come to nought. 6 We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.
But we speak God's wisdom in [a] mystery, that hidden [wisdom] which God had predetermined before the ages for our glory: 7 No, we speak of God's secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began.
which none of the princes of this age knew, (for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory;) 8 None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
but according as it is written, Things which eye has not seen, and ear not heard, and which have not come into man's heart, which God has prepared for them that love him, 9 However, as it is written: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him"--
but God has revealed to us by [his] Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. 10 but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.
For who of men hath known the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? thus also the things of God knows no one except the Spirit of God. 11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.
But *we* have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which [is] of God, that we may know the things which have been freely given to us of God: 12 We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.
which also we speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, communicating spiritual [things] by spiritual [means]. 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words.
But [the] natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him; and he cannot know [them] because they are spiritually discerned; 14 The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.
but the spiritual discerns all things, and *he* is discerned of no one. 15 The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man's judgment:
For who has known the mind of [the] Lord, who shall instruct him? But *we* have the mind of Christ. 16 "For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?" But we have the mind of Christ.
