American Standard Version (ASV) New International Version (NIV)
And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, as unto babes in Christ. 1 Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual but as worldly--mere infants in Christ.
I fed you with milk, not with meat; for ye were not yet able [to bear it]: nay, not even now are ye able; 2 I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready.
for ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you jealousy and strife, are ye not carnal, and do ye not walk after the manner of men? 3 You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere men?
For when one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not men? 4 For when one says, "I follow Paul," and another, "I follow Apollos," are you not mere men?
What then is Apollos? and what is Paul? Ministers through whom ye believed; and each as the Lord gave to him. 5 What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe--as the Lord has assigned to each his task.
I planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. 6 I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow.
So then neither is he that planteth anything, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. 7 So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.
Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: but each shall receive his own reward according to his own labor. 8 The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor.
For we are God's fellow-workers: ye are God's husbandry, God's building. 9 For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building.
According to the grace of God which was given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder I laid a foundation; and another buildeth thereon. But let each man take heed how he buildeth thereon. 10 By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds.
For other foundation can no man lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.
But if any man buildeth on the foundation gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay, stubble; 12 If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw,
each man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it is revealed in fire; and the fire itself shall prove each man's work of what sort it is. 13 his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work.
If any man's work shall abide which he built thereon, he shall receive a reward. 14 If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward.
If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as through fire. 15 If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.
Know ye not that ye are a temple of God, and [that] the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 16 Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you?
If any man destroyeth the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, and such are ye. 17 If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for God's temple is sacred, and you are that temple.
Let no man deceive himself. If any man thinketh that he is wise among you in this world, let him become a fool, that he may become wise. 18 Do not deceive yourselves. If any one of you thinks he is wise by the standards of this age, he should become a "fool" so that he may become wise.
For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He that taketh the wise in their craftiness: 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God's sight. As it is written: "He catches the wise in their craftiness";
and again, The Lord knoweth the reasonings of the wise that they are vain. 20 and again, "The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile."
Wherefore let no one glory in men. For all things are yours; 21 So then, no more boasting about men! All things are yours,
whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours; 22 whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future--all are yours,
and ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's. 23 and you are of Christ, and Christ is of God.
