Young's Literal Translation (YLT) New International Version (NIV)
And I, brethren, was not able to speak to you as to spiritual, but as to fleshly -- as to babes in Christ; 1 Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual but as worldly--mere infants in Christ.
with milk I fed you, and not with meat, for ye were not yet able, but not even yet are ye now able, 2 I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready.
for yet ye are fleshly, for where [there is] among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not fleshly, and in the manner of men do walk? 3 You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere men?
for when one may say, `I, indeed, am of Paul;' and another, `I -- of Apollos;' are ye not fleshly? 4 For when one says, "I follow Paul," and another, "I follow Apollos," are you not mere men?
Who, then, is Paul, and who Apollos, but ministrants through whom ye did believe, and to each as the Lord gave? 5 What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe--as the Lord has assigned to each his task.
I planted, Apollos watered, but God was giving growth; 6 I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow.
so that neither is he who is planting anything, nor he who is watering, but He who is giving growth -- God; 7 So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.
and he who is planting and he who is watering are one, and each his own reward shall receive, according to his own labour, 8 The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor.
for of God we are fellow-workmen; God's tillage, God's building ye are. 9 For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building.
According to the grace of God that was given to me, as a wise master-builder, a foundation I have laid, and another doth build on [it], 10 By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds.
for other foundation no one is able to lay except that which is laid, which is Jesus the Christ; 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.
and if any one doth build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw -- 12 If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw,
of each the work shall become manifest, for the day shall declare [it], because in fire it is revealed, and the work of each, what kind it is, the fire shall prove; 13 his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work.
if of any one the work doth remain that he built on [it], a wage he shall receive; 14 If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward.
if of any the work is burned up, he shall suffer loss; and himself shall be saved, but so as through fire. 15 If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.
have ye not known that ye are a sanctuary of God, and the Spirit of God doth dwell in you? 16 Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you?
if any one the sanctuary of God doth waste, him shall God waste; for the sanctuary of God is holy, the which ye are. 17 If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for God's temple is sacred, and you are that temple.
Let no one deceive himself; if any one doth seem to be wise among you in this age -- let him become a fool, that he may become wise, 18 Do not deceive yourselves. If any one of you thinks he is wise by the standards of this age, he should become a "fool" so that he may become wise.
for the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God, for it hath been written, `Who is taking the wise in their craftiness;' 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God's sight. As it is written: "He catches the wise in their craftiness";
and again, `The Lord doth know the reasonings of the wise, that they are vain.' 20 and again, "The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile."
So then, let no one glory in men, for all things are yours, 21 So then, no more boasting about men! All things are yours,
whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things about to be -- all are yours, 22 whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future--all are yours,
and ye [are] Christ's, and Christ [is] God's. 23 and you are of Christ, and Christ is of God.
