Complete Jewish Bible (CJB) New International Version (NIV)
It is actually being reported that there is sexual sin among you, and it is sexual sin of a kind that is condemned even by pagans-a man is living with his stepmother! 1 It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that does not occur even among pagans: A man has his father's wife.
And you stay proud? Shouldn't you rather have felt some sadness that would have led you to remove from your company the man who has done this thing? 2 And you are proud! Shouldn't you rather have been filled with grief and have put out of your fellowship the man who did this?
For I myself, even though I am absent physically, am with you spiritually; and I have already judged the man who has done this as if I were present. 3 Even though I am not physically present, I am with you in spirit. And I have already passed judgment on the one who did this, just as if I were present.
In the name of the Lord Yeshua, when you are assembled, with me present spiritually and the power of our Lord Yeshua among us, 4 When you are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus and I am with you in spirit, and the power of our Lord Jesus is present,
hand over such a person to the Adversary for his old nature to be destroyed, so that his spirit may be saved in the Day of the Lord. 5 hand this man over to Satan, so that the sinful nature may be destroyed and his spirit saved on the day of the Lord.
Your boasting is not good. Don't you know the saying, "It takes only a little hametz to leaven a whole batch of dough?" 6 Your boasting is not good. Don't you know that a little yeast works through the whole batch of dough?
Get rid of the old hametz, so that you can be a new batch of dough, because in reality you are unleavened. For our Pesach lamb, the Messiah, has been sacrificed. 7 Get rid of the old yeast that you may be a new batch without yeast--as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.
So let us celebrate the Seder not with leftover hametz, the hametz of wickedness and evil, but with the matzah of purity and truth. 8 Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and wickedness, but with bread without yeast, the bread of sincerity and truth.
In my earlier letter I wrote you not to associate with people who engage in sexual immorality. 9 I have written you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people--
I didn't mean the sexually immoral people outside your community, or the greedy, or the thieves or the idol-worshippers - for then you would have to leave the world altogether! 10 not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world.
No, what I wrote you was not to associate with anyone who is supposedly a brother but who also engages in sexual immorality, is greedy, worships idols, is abusive, gets drunk or steals. With such a person you shouldn't even eat! 11 But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat.
For what business is it of mine to judge outsiders? Isn't it those who are part of the community that you should be judging? 12 What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside?
God will judge those who are outside. Just expel the evildoer from among yourselves. 13 God will judge those outside. "Expel the wicked man from among you."
