The Darby Translation (DBY) New International Version (NIV)
Dare any one of you, having a matter against another, prosecute his suit before the unjust, and not before the saints? 1 If any of you has a dispute with another, dare he take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the saints?
Do ye not then know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world is judged by you, are ye unworthy of [the] smallest judgments? 2 Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases?
Do ye not know that we shall judge angels? and not then matters of this life? 3 Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!
If then ye have judgments as to things of this life, set those [to judge] who are little esteemed in the assembly. 4 Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, appoint as judges even men of little account in the church!
I speak to you [to put you] to shame. Thus there is not a wise person among you, not even one, who shall be able to decide between his brethren! 5 I say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers?
But brother prosecutes his suit with brother, and that before unbelievers. 6 But instead, one brother goes to law against another--and this in front of unbelievers!
Already indeed then it is altogether a fault in you that ye have suits between yourselves. Why do ye not rather suffer wrong? why are ye not rather defrauded? 7 The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated?
But *ye* do wrong, and defraud, and this [your] brethren. 8 Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers.
Do ye not know that unrighteous [persons] shall not inherit [the] kingdom of God? Do not err: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor those who make women of themselves, nor who abuse themselves with men, 9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders
nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor abusive persons, nor [the] rapacious, shall inherit [the] kingdom of God. 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
And these things were some of you; but ye have been washed, but ye have been sanctified, but ye have been justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
All things are lawful to me, but all things do not profit; all things are lawful to me, but *I* will not be brought under the power of any. 12 "Everything is permissible for me"--but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me"--but I will not be mastered by anything.
Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats; but God will bring to nothing both it and them: but the body [is] not for fornication, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 13 "Food for the stomach and the stomach for food"--but God will destroy them both. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
And God has both raised up the Lord, and will raise us up from among [the dead] by his power. 14 By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also.
Do ye not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then, taking the members of the Christ, make [them] members of a harlot? Far be the thought. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never!
Do ye not know that he [that is] joined to the harlot is one body? for the two, he says, shall be one flesh. 16 Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh."
But he that [is] joined to the Lord is one Spirit. 17 But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit.
Flee fornication. Every sin which a man may practise is without the body, but he that commits fornication sins against his own body. 18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body.
Do ye not know that your body is [the] temple of the Holy Spirit which [is] in you, which ye have of God; and ye are not your own? 19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
for ye have been bought with a price: glorify now then God in your body. 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
