Weymouth New Testament (WNT) New International Version (NIV)
That which was from the beginning, which we have listened to, which we have seen with our own eyes, and our own hands have handled concerning the Word of Life-- 1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched--this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.
the Life was manifested, and we have seen and bear witness, and we declare unto you the Life of the Ages which was with the Father and was manifested to us-- 2 The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us.
that which we have seen and listened to we now announce to you also, in order that you also may have fellowship in it with us, and this fellowship with us is fellowship with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. 3 We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.
And we write these things in order that our joy may be made complete. 4 We write this to make our joy complete.
This is the Message which we have heard from the Lord Jesus and now deliver to you--God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness. 5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.
If, while we are living in darkness, we profess to have fellowship with Him, we speak falsely and are not adhering to the truth. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth.
But if we live in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, cleanses us from all sin. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
If we claim to be already free from sin, we lead ourselves astray and the truth has no place in our hearts. 8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins, He is so faithful and just that He forgives us our sins and cleanses us from all unrighteousness. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
If we deny that we have sinned, we make Him a liar, and His Message has no place in our hearts. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.
