The Webster Bible (WBT) New International Version (NIV)
And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel had come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel, in the month of Zif, which [is] the second month, that he began to build the house of the LORD. 1 In the four hundred and eightieth year after the Israelites had come out of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv, the second month, he began to build the temple of the LORD.
And the house which king Solomon built for the LORD, the length of it [was] sixty cubits, and the breadth of it twenty [cubits], and the hight of it thirty cubits. 2 The temple that King Solomon built for the LORD was sixty cubits long, twenty wide and thirty high.
And the porch before the temple of the house, twenty cubits [was] the length of it, according to the breadth of the house; [and] ten cubits [was] the breadth of it, before the house. 3 The portico at the front of the main hall of the temple extended the width of the temple, that is twenty cubits, and projected ten cubits from the front of the temple.
And for the house he made windows of narrow lights. 4 He made narrow clerestory windows in the temple.
And against the wall of the house he built chambers round about, [against] the walls of the house round about, [both] of the temple and of the oracle: and he made chambers round about: 5 Against the walls of the main hall and inner sanctuary he built a structure around the building, in which there were side rooms.
The nethermost chamber [was] five cubits broad, and the middle [was] six cubits broad, and the third [was] seven cubits broad: for without [in the wall] of the house he made narrowed rests round about, that [the beams] should not be fastened in the walls of the house. 6 The lowest floor was five cubits wide, the middle floor six cubits and the third floor seven. He made offset ledges around the outside of the temple so that nothing would be inserted into the temple walls.
And the house, when it was in building, was built of stone made ready before it was brought thither; so that there was neither hammer nor ax [nor] any tool of iron heard in the house, while it was in building. 7 In building the temple, only blocks dressed at the quarry were used, and no hammer, chisel or any other iron tool was heard at the temple site while it was being built.
The door for the middle chamber [was] in the right side of the house: and they went up with winding stairs into the middle [chamber], and out of the middle into the third; 8 The entrance to the lowest floor was on the south side of the temple; a stairway led up to the middle level and from there to the third.
So he built the house and finished it; and covered the house with beams and boards of cedar. 9 So he built the temple and completed it, roofing it with beams and cedar planks.
And [then] he built chambers against all the house, five cubits high: and they rested on the house with timber of cedar. 10 And he built the side rooms all along the temple. The height of each was five cubits, and they were attached to the temple by beams of cedar.
And the word of the LORD came to Solomon, saying, 11 The word of the LORD came to Solomon:
[Concerning] this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spoke to David thy father: 12 "As for this temple you are building, if you follow my decrees, carry out my regulations and keep all my commands and obey them, I will fulfill through you the promise I gave to David your father.
And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel. 13 And I will live among the Israelites and will not abandon my people Israel."
So Solomon built the house, and finished it. 14 So Solomon built the temple and completed it.
And he built the walls of the house within with boards of cedar, both the floor of the house, and the walls of the ceiling: [and] he covered [them] on the inside with wood, and covered the floor of the house with planks of fir. 15 He lined its interior walls with cedar boards, paneling them from the floor of the temple to the ceiling, and covered the floor of the temple with planks of pine.
And he built twenty cubits on the sides of the house, both the floor and the walls with boards of cedar: he even built [them] for it within, [even] for the oracle, [even] for the most holy [place]. 16 He partitioned off twenty cubits at the rear of the temple with cedar boards from floor to ceiling to form within the temple an inner sanctuary, the Most Holy Place.
And the house, that [is], the temple before it, was forty cubits [long]. 17 The main hall in front of this room was forty cubits long.
And the cedar of the house within [was] carved with knobs and open flowers: all [was] cedar; there was no stone seen. 18 The inside of the temple was cedar, carved with gourds and open flowers. Everything was cedar; no stone was to be seen.
And the oracle he prepared in the house within, to set there the ark of the covenant of the LORD. 19 He prepared the inner sanctuary within the temple to set the ark of the covenant of the LORD there.
And the oracle in the forepart [was] twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in the hight of it, and he overlaid it with pure gold; and [so] covered the altar [which was of] cedar. 20 The inner sanctuary was twenty cubits long, twenty wide and twenty high. He overlaid the inside with pure gold, and he also overlaid the altar of cedar.
So Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold: and he made a partition by the chains of gold before the oracle; and he overlaid it with gold. 21 Solomon covered the inside of the temple with pure gold, and he extended gold chains across the front of the inner sanctuary, which was overlaid with gold.
And the whole house he overlaid with gold, until he had finished all the house: also the whole altar that [was] by the oracle he overlaid with gold. 22 So he overlaid the whole interior with gold. He also overlaid with gold the altar that belonged to the inner sanctuary.
And within the oracle he made two cherubim [of] olive tree, [each] ten cubits high. 23 In the inner sanctuary he made a pair of cherubim of olive wood, each ten cubits high.
And five cubits [was] the one wing of the cherub, and five cubits the other wing of the cherub: from the uttermost part of the one wing to the uttermost part of the other [were] ten cubits. 24 One wing of the first cherub was five cubits long, and the other wing five cubits--ten cubits from wing tip to wing tip.
And the other cherub [was] ten cubits: both the cherubim [were] of one measure and one size. 25 The second cherub also measured ten cubits, for the two cherubim were identical in size and shape.
The hight of the one cherub [was] ten cubits, and so [was it] of the other cherub. 26 The height of each cherub was ten cubits.
And he set the cherubim within the inner house: and they stretched forth the wings of the cherubim, so that the wing of the one touched the [one] wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the midst of the house. 27 He placed the cherubim inside the innermost room of the temple, with their wings spread out. The wing of one cherub touched one wall, while the wing of the other touched the other wall, and their wings touched each other in the middle of the room.
And he overlaid the cherubim with gold. 28 He overlaid the cherubim with gold.
And he carved all the walls of the house around with carved figures of cherubim, and palm trees, and open flowers, within and without. 29 On the walls all around the temple, in both the inner and outer rooms, he carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers.
And the floor of the house he overlaid with gold, within and without. 30 He also covered the floors of both the inner and outer rooms of the temple with gold.
And for the entrance of the oracle he made doors [of] olive tree: the lintel [and] side-posts [were] a fifth part [of the wall]. 31 For the entrance of the inner sanctuary he made doors of olive wood with five-sided jambs.
The two doors also [were of] olive tree; and he carved upon them carvings of cherubim, and palm trees, and open flowers, and overlaid [them] with gold, and spread gold upon the cherubim, and upon the palm trees. 32 And on the two olive wood doors he carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers, and overlaid the cherubim and palm trees with beaten gold.
So also he made for the door of the temple posts [of] olive tree a fourth part [of the wall]. 33 In the same way he made four-sided jambs of olive wood for the entrance to the main hall.
And the two doors [were of] fir tree: the two leaves of the one door [were] folding, and the two leaves of the other door [were] folding. 34 He also made two pine doors, each having two leaves that turned in sockets.
And he carved [thereon] cherubim, and palm trees, and open flowers; and covered [them] with gold, fitted upon the carved work. 35 He carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers on them and overlaid them with gold hammered evenly over the carvings.
And he built the inner court with three rows of hewn stone, and a row of cedar beams. 36 And he built the inner courtyard of three courses of dressed stone and one course of trimmed cedar beams.
In the fourth year was the foundation of the house of the LORD laid, in the month Zif: 37 The foundation of the temple of the LORD was laid in the fourth year, in the month of Ziv.
And in the eleventh year, in the month Bul (which [is] the eighth month) was the house finished throughout all its parts, and according to all the fashion of it. So was he seven years in building it. 38 In the eleventh year in the month of Bul, the eighth month, the temple was finished in all its details according to its specifications. He had spent seven years building it.
