The Darby Translation (DBY) New International Version (NIV)
Peter, apostle of Jesus Christ, to [the] sojourners of [the] dispersion of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, 1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To God's elect, strangers in the world, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia,
elect according to [the] foreknowledge of God [the] Father, by sanctification of [the] Spirit, unto [the] obedience and sprinkling of [the] blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied. 2 who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance.
Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who, according to his great mercy, has begotten us again to a living hope through [the] resurrection of Jesus Christ from among [the] dead, 3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
to an incorruptible and undefiled and unfading inheritance, reserved in [the] heavens for you, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade--kept in heaven for you,
who are kept guarded by [the] power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in [the] last time. 5 who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.
Wherein ye exult, for a little while at present, if needed, put to grief by various trials, 6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.
that the proving of your faith, much more precious than of gold which perishes, though it be proved by fire, be found to praise and glory and honour in [the] revelation of Jesus Christ: 7 These have come so that your faith--of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire--may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.
whom, having not seen, ye love; on whom [though] not now looking, but believing, ye exult with joy unspeakable and filled with [the] glory, 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy,
receiving the end of your faith, [the] salvation of [your] souls. 9 for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
Concerning which salvation prophets, who have prophesied of the grace towards you, sought out and searched out; 10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care,
searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ which [was] in them pointed out, testifying before of the sufferings which [belonged] to Christ, and the glories after these. 11 trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.
To whom it was revealed, that not to themselves but to you they ministered those things, which have now been announced to you by those who have declared to you the glad tidings by [the] Holy Spirit, sent from heaven, which angels desire to look into. 12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.
Wherefore, having girded up the loins of your mind, [be] sober [and] hope with perfect stedfastness in the grace [which will be] brought to you at [the] revelation of Jesus Christ; 13 Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.
as children of obedience, not conformed to [your] former lusts in your ignorance; 14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.
but as he who has called you is holy, be ye also holy in all [your] conversation; 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do;
because it is written, Be ye holy, for *I* am holy. 16 for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."
And if ye invoke as Father him who, without regard of persons, judges according to the work of each, pass your time of sojourn in fear, 17 Since you call on a Father who judges each man's work impartially, live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear.
knowing that ye have been redeemed, not by corruptible [things, as] silver or gold, from your vain conversation handed down from [your] fathers, 18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers,
but by precious blood, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot, [the blood] of Christ, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.
foreknown indeed before [the] foundation of [the] world, but who has been manifested at the end of times for your sakes, 20 He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.
who by him do believe on God, who has raised him from among [the] dead and given him glory, that your faith and hope should be in God. 21 Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.
Having purified your souls by obedience to the truth to unfeigned brotherly love, love one another out of a pure heart fervently; 22 Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart.
being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by [the] living and abiding word of God. 23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.
Because all flesh [is] as grass, and all its glory as [the] flower of grass. The grass has withered and [its] flower has fallen; 24 For, "All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of [the] Lord abides for eternity. But this is the word which in the glad tidings [is] preached to you. 25 but the word of the Lord stands forever." And this is the word that was preached to you.
