1 Il y avait un homme de Ramatha?m-Tsophim, de la montagne d'?phra?m, nomm? Elkana, fils de Jeroham, fils d'?lihu, fils de Thohu, fils de Tsuph, ?phratien.

1 There was a certain man from Ramathaim, a Zuphite from the hill country of Ephraim, whose name was Elkanah son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.

2 Il avait deux femmes, dont l'une s'appelait Anne, et l'autre Peninna; Peninna avait des enfants, mais Anne n'en avait point.
|
2 He had two wives; one was called Hannah and the other Peninnah. Peninnah had children, but Hannah had none.
|
|
3 Chaque ann?e, cet homme montait de sa ville ? Silo, pour se prosterner devant l'?ternel des arm?es et pour lui offrir des sacrifices. L? se trouvaient les deux fils d'?li, Hophni et Phin?es, sacrificateurs de l'?ternel.
|
3 Year after year this man went up from his town to worship and sacrifice to the LORD Almighty at Shiloh, where Hophni and Phinehas, the two sons of Eli, were priests of the LORD.
|
|
4 Le jour o? Elkana offrait son sacrifice, il donnait des portions ? Peninna, sa femme, et ? tous les fils et ? toutes les filles qu'il avait d'elle.
|
4 Whenever the day came for Elkanah to sacrifice, he would give portions of the meat to his wife Peninnah and to all her sons and daughters.
|
|
5 Mais il donnait ? Anne une portion double; car il aimait Anne, que l'?ternel avait rendue st?rile.
|
5 But to Hannah he gave a double portion because he loved her, and the LORD had closed her womb.
|
|
6 Sa rivale lui prodiguait les mortifications, pour la porter ? s'irriter de ce que l'?ternel l'avait rendue st?rile.
|
6 And because the LORD had closed her womb, her rival kept provoking her in order to irritate her.
|
|
7 Et toutes les ann?es il en ?tait ainsi. Chaque fois qu'Anne montait ? la maison de l'?ternel, Peninna la mortifiait de la m?me mani?re. Alors elle pleurait et ne mangeait point.
|
7 This went on year after year. Whenever Hannah went up to the house of the LORD, her rival provoked her till she wept and would not eat.
|
|
8 Elkana, son mari, lui disait: Anne, pourquoi pleures-tu, et ne manges-tu pas? pourquoi ton coeur est-il attrist?? Est-ce que je ne vaux pas pour toi mieux que dix fils?
|
8 Elkanah her husband would say to her, "Hannah, why are you weeping? Why don't you eat? Why are you downhearted? Don't I mean more to you than ten sons?"
|
|
9 Anne se leva, apr?s que l'on eut mang? et bu ? Silo. Le sacrificateur ?li ?tait assis sur un si?ge, pr?s de l'un des poteaux du temple de l'?ternel.
|
9 Once when they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh, Hannah stood up. Now Eli the priest was sitting on a chair by the doorpost of the LORD's temple.
|
|
10 Et, l'amertume dans l'?me, elle pria l'?ternel et versa des pleurs.
|
10 In bitterness of soul Hannah wept much and prayed to the LORD.
|
|
11 Elle fit un voeu, en disant: ?ternel des arm?es! si tu daignes regarder l'affliction de ta servante, si tu te souviens de moi et n'oublies point ta servante, et si tu donnes ? ta servante un enfant m?le, je le consacrerai ? l'?ternel pour tous les jours de sa vie, et le rasoir ne passera point sur sa t?te.

11 And she made a vow, saying, "O LORD Almighty, if you will only look upon your servant's misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the LORD for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head."

12 Comme elle restait longtemps en pri?re devant l'?ternel, ?li observa sa bouche.
|
12 As she kept on praying to the LORD, Eli observed her mouth.
|
|
13 Anne parlait dans son coeur, et ne faisait que remuer les l?vres, mais on n'entendait point sa voix. ?li pensa qu'elle ?tait ivre,
|
13 Hannah was praying in her heart, and her lips were moving but her voice was not heard. Eli thought she was drunk
|
|
14 et il lui dit: Jusques ? quand seras-tu dans l'ivresse? Fais passer ton vin.
|
14 and said to her, "How long will you keep on getting drunk? Get rid of your wine."
|
|
15 Anne r?pondit: Non, mon seigneur, je suis une femme qui souffre en son coeur, et je n'ai bu ni vin ni boisson enivrante; mais je r?pandais mon ?me devant l'?ternel.
|
15 "Not so, my lord," Hannah replied, "I am a woman who is deeply troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer; I was pouring out my soul to the LORD.
|
|
16 Ne prends pas ta servante pour une femme pervertie, car c'est l'exc?s de ma douleur et de mon chagrin qui m'a fait parler jusqu'? pr?sent.
|
16 Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; I have been praying here out of my great anguish and grief."
|
|
17 ?li reprit la parole, et dit: Va en paix, et que le Dieu d'Isra?l exauce la pri?re que tu lui as adress?e!
|
17 Eli answered, "Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him."
|
|
18 Elle dit: Que ta servante trouve gr?ce ? tes yeux! Et cette femme s'en alla. Elle mangea, et son visage ne fut plus le m?me.
|
18 She said, "May your servant find favor in your eyes." Then she went her way and ate something, and her face was no longer downcast.
|
|
19 Ils se lev?rent de bon matin, et apr?s s'?tre prostern?s devant l'?ternel, ils s'en retourn?rent et revinrent dans leur maison ? Rama. Elkana connut Anne, sa femme, et l'?ternel se souvint d'elle.
|
19 Early the next morning they arose and worshiped before the LORD and then went back to their home at Ramah. Elkanah lay with Hannah his wife, and the LORD remembered her.

|
20 Dans le cours de l'ann?e, Anne devint enceinte, et elle enfanta un fils, qu'elle nomma Samuel, car, dit-elle, je l'ai demand? ? l'?ternel.
|
20 So in the course of time Hannah conceived and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, saying, "Because I asked the LORD for him."
|
|
21 Son mari Elkana monta ensuite avec toute sa maison, pour offrir ? l'?ternel le sacrifice annuel, et pour accomplir son voeu.
|
21 When the man Elkanah went up with all his family to offer the annual sacrifice to the LORD and to fulfill his vow,
|
|
22 Mais Anne ne monta point, et elle dit ? son mari: Lorsque l'enfant sera sevr?, je le m?nerai, afin qu'il soit pr?sent? devant l'?ternel et qu'il reste l? pour toujours.
|
22 Hannah did not go. She said to her husband, "After the boy is weaned, I will take him and present him before the LORD, and he will live there always."
|
|
23 Elkana, son mari, lui dit: Fais ce qui te semblera bon, attends de l'avoir sevr?. Veuille seulement l'?ternel accomplir sa parole! Et la femme resta et allaita son fils, jusqu'? ce qu'elle le sevr?t.
|
23 "Do what seems best to you," Elkanah her husband told her. "Stay here until you have weaned him; only may the LORD make good his word." So the woman stayed at home and nursed her son until she had weaned him.
|
|
24 Quand elle l'eut sevr?, elle le fit monter avec elle, et prit trois taureaux, un ?pha de farine, et une outre de vin. Elle le mena dans la maison de l'?ternel ? Silo: l'enfant ?tait encore tout jeune.
|
24 After he was weaned, she took the boy with her, young as he was, along with a three-year-old bull, an ephah of flour and a skin of wine, and brought him to the house of the LORD at Shiloh.

|
25 Ils ?gorg?rent les taureaux, et ils conduisirent l'enfant ? ?li.
|
25 When they had slaughtered the bull, they brought the boy to Eli,
|
|
26 Anne dit: Mon seigneur, pardon! aussi vrai que ton ?me vit, mon seigneur, je suis cette femme qui me tenais ici pr?s de toi pour prier l'?ternel.
|
26 and she said to him, "As surely as you live, my lord, I am the woman who stood here beside you praying to the LORD.
|
|
27 C'?tait pour cet enfant que je priais, et l'?ternel a exauc? la pri?re que je lui adressais.
|
27 I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him.
|
|
28 Aussi je veux le pr?ter ? l'?ternel: il sera toute sa vie pr?t? ? l'?ternel. Et ils se prostern?rent l? devant l'?ternel.
|
28 So now I give him to the LORD. For his whole life he will be given over to the LORD." And he worshiped the LORD there.
