1 Les Philistins prirent l'arche de Dieu, et ils la transport?rent d'?ben-?zer ? Asdod.

1 After the Philistines had captured the ark of God, they took it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.
|

2 Apr?s s'?tre empar?s de l'arche de Dieu, les Philistins la firent entrer dans la maison de Dagon et la plac?rent ? c?t? de Dagon.
|
2 Then they carried the ark into Dagon's temple and set it beside Dagon.
|
|
3 Le lendemain, les Asdodiens, qui s'?taient lev?s de bon matin, trouv?rent Dagon ?tendu la face contre terre, devant l'arche de l'?ternel. Ils prirent Dagon, et le remirent ? sa place.

3 When the people of Ashdod rose early the next day, there was Dagon, fallen on his face on the ground before the ark of the LORD! They took Dagon and put him back in his place.

4 Le lendemain encore, s'?tant lev?s de bon matin, ils trouv?rent Dagon ?tendu la face contre terre, devant l'arche de l'?ternel; la t?te de Dagon et ses deux mains ?taient abattues sur le seuil, et il ne lui restait que le tronc.

4 But the following morning when they rose, there was Dagon, fallen on his face on the ground before the ark of the LORD! His head and hands had been broken off and were lying on the threshold; only his body remained.

5 C'est pourquoi jusqu'? ce jour, les pr?tres de Dagon et tous ceux qui entrent dans la maison de Dagon ? Asdod ne marchent point sur le seuil.
|
5 That is why to this day neither the priests of Dagon nor any others who enter Dagon's temple at Ashdod step on the threshold.

6 La main de l'?ternel s'appesantit sur les Asdodiens, et il mit la d?solation parmi eux; il les frappa d'h?morro?des ? Asdod et dans son territoire.

6 The LORD's hand was heavy upon the people of Ashdod and its vicinity; he brought devastation upon them and afflicted them with tumors.

7 Voyant qu'il en ?tait ainsi, les gens d'Asdod dirent: L'arche du Dieu d'Isra?l ne restera pas chez nous, car il appesantit sa main sur nous et sur Dagon, notre dieu.
|
7 When the men of Ashdod saw what was happening, they said, "The ark of the god of Israel must not stay here with us, because his hand is heavy upon us and upon Dagon our god."

8 Et ils firent chercher et assembl?rent aupr?s d'eux tous les princes des Philistins, et ils dirent: Que ferons-nous de l'arche du Dieu d'Isra?l? Les princes r?pondirent: Que l'on transporte ? Gath l'arche du Dieu d'Isra?l. Et l'on y transporta l'arche du Dieu d'Isra?l.

8 So they called together all the rulers of the Philistines and asked them, "What shall we do with the ark of the god of Israel?" They answered, "Have the ark of the god of Israel moved to Gath." So they moved the ark of the God of Israel.

9 Mais apr?s qu'elle eut ?t? transport?e, la main de l'?ternel fut sur la ville, et il y eut une tr?s grande consternation; il frappa les gens de la ville depuis le petit jusqu'au grand, et ils eurent une ?ruption d'h?morro?des.

9 But after they had moved it, the LORD's hand was against that city, throwing it into a great panic. He afflicted the people of the city, both young and old, with an outbreak of tumors.

10 Alors ils envoy?rent l'arche de Dieu ? ?kron. Lorsque l'arche de Dieu entra dans ?kron, les ?kroniens pouss?rent des cris, en disant: On a transport? chez nous l'arche du Dieu d'Isra?l, pour nous faire mourir, nous et notre peuple!

10 So they sent the ark of God to Ekron. As the ark of God was entering Ekron, the people of Ekron cried out, "They have brought the ark of the god of Israel around to us to kill us and our people."

11 Et ils firent chercher et assembl?rent tous les princes des Philistins, et ils dirent: Renvoyez l'arche du Dieu d'Isra?l; qu'elle retourne en son lieu, et qu'elle ne nous fasse pas mourir, nous et notre peuple. Car il y avait dans toute la ville une terreur mortelle; la main de Dieu s'y appesantissait fortement.

11 So they called together all the rulers of the Philistines and said, "Send the ark of the god of Israel away; let it go back to its own place, or it will kill us and our people." For death had filled the city with panic; God's hand was very heavy upon it.

12 Les gens qui ne mouraient pas ?taient frapp?s d'h?morro?des, et les cris de la ville montaient jusqu'au ciel.
|
12 Those who did not die were afflicted with tumors, and the outcry of the city went up to heaven.
