New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
This letter is from Paul, Silas, and Timothy. It is written to the church in Thessalonica, you who belong to God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.May his grace and peace be yours. 1 Paul, Silas and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace and peace to you.
We always thank God for all of you and pray for you constantly. 2 We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers.
As we talk to our God and Father about you, we think of your faithful work, your loving deeds, and your continual anticipation of the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. 3 We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
We know that God loves you, dear brothers and sisters, and that he chose you to be his own people. 4 For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you,
For when we brought you the Good News, it was not only with words but also with power, for the Holy Spirit gave you full assurance that what we said was true. And you know that the way we lived among you was further proof of the truth of our message. 5 because our gospel came to you not simply with words, but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake.
So you received the message with joy from the Holy Spirit in spite of the severe suffering it brought you. In this way, you imitated both us and the Lord. 6 You became imitators of us and of the Lord; in spite of severe suffering, you welcomed the message with the joy given by the Holy Spirit.
As a result, you yourselves became an example to all the Christians in Greece. 7 And so you became a model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia.
And now the word of the Lord is ringing out from you to people everywhere, even beyond Greece, for wherever we go we find people telling us about your faith in God. We don't need to tell them about it, 8 The Lord's message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia--your faith in God has become known everywhere. Therefore we do not need to say anything about it,
for they themselves keep talking about the wonderful welcome you gave us and how you turned away from idols to serve the true and living God. 9 for they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us. They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God,
And they speak of how you are looking forward to the coming of God's Son from heaven -- Jesus, whom God raised from the dead. He is the one who has rescued us from the terrors of the coming judgment. 10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead--Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.
