Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you. 1 Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you,
For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. 2 for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.
While they are saying, "Peace and safety!" then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child , and they will not escape. 3 While people are saying, "Peace and safety," destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.
But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief; 4 But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief.
for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness; 5 You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.
so then let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober. 6 So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled.
For those who sleep do their sleeping at night, and those who get drunk get drunk at night. 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night.
But since we are of the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation. 8 But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.
For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 9 For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him. 10 He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him.
Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing. 11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
But we request of you, brethren, that you appreciate those who diligently labor among you, and have charge over you in the Lord and give you instruction, 12 Now we ask you, brothers, to respect those who work hard among you, who are over you in the Lord and who admonish you.
and that you esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Live in peace with one another. 13 Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other.
We urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone. 14 And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone.
See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek after that which is good for one another and for all people. 15 Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else.
Rejoice always; 16 Be joyful always;
pray without ceasing; 17 pray continually;
in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
Do not quench the Spirit; 19 Do not put out the Spirit's fire;
do not despise prophetic utterances. 20 do not treat prophecies with contempt.
But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good; 21 Test everything. Hold on to the good.
abstain from every form of evil. 22 Avoid every kind of evil.
Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass. 24 The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.
Brethren, pray for us. 25 Brothers, pray for us.
Greet all the brethren with a holy kiss. 26 Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.
I adjure you by the Lord to have this letter read to all the brethren. 27 I charge you before the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. 28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
