I exhort therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings, be made for all men; 1 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone--
for kings and all that are in high place; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and gravity. 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior,
who would have all men to be saved, and come to the knowledge of the truth. 4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
For there is one God, one mediator also between God and men, [himself] man, Christ Jesus, 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
who gave himself a ransom for all; the testimony [to be borne] in its own times; 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all men--the testimony given in its proper time.
whereunto I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I speak the truth, I lie not), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. 7 And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle--I am telling the truth, I am not lying--and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles.
I desire therefore that the men pray in every place, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and disputing. 8 I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing.
In like manner, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefastness and sobriety; not with braided hair, and gold or pearls or costly raiment; 9 I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes,
but (which becometh women professing godliness) through good works. 10 but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.
Let a woman learn in quietness with all subjection. 11 A woman should learn in quietness and full submission.
But I permit not a woman to teach, nor to have dominion over a man, but to be in quietness. 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.
For Adam was first formed, then Eve; 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve.
and Adam was not beguiled, but the woman being beguiled hath fallen into transgression: 14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.
but she shall be saved through her child-bearing, if they continue in faith and love and sanctification with sobriety. 15 But women will be saved through childbearing--if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.
