New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
But let me tell you a wonderful secret God has revealed to us. Not all of us will die, but we will all be transformed. 51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed--
It will happen in a moment, in the blinking of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, the Christians who have died will be raised with transformed bodies. And then we who are living will be transformed so that we will never die. 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
For our perishable earthly bodies must be transformed into heavenly bodies that will never die. 53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality.
When this happens -- when our perishable earthly bodies have been transformed into heavenly bodies that will never die -- then at last the Scriptures will come true: "Death is swallowed up in victory. 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: "Death has been swallowed up in victory."
O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?" 55 "Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?"
For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
How we thank God, who gives us victory over sin and death through Jesus Christ our Lord! 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and steady, always enthusiastic about the Lord's work, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless. 58 Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
