English Standard Version (ESV) New International Version (NIV)
But I, brothers, could not address you as spiritual people, but as people of the flesh, as infants in Christ. 1 Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual but as worldly--mere infants in Christ.
I fed you with milk, not solid food, for you were not ready for it. And even now you are not yet ready, 2 I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready.
for you are still of the flesh. For while there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not of the flesh and behaving only in a human way? 3 You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere men?
For when one says, "I follow Paul," and another, "I follow Apollos,"are you not being merely human? 4 For when one says, "I follow Paul," and another, "I follow Apollos," are you not mere men?
What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, as the Lord assigned to each. 5 What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe--as the Lord has assigned to each his task.
I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. 6 I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow.
So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. 7 So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.
He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor. 8 The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor.
For we are God's fellow workers. You are God's field, God's building. 9 For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building.
According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. 10 By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds.
For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw-- 12 If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw,
each one's work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. 13 his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work.
If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. 14 If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward.
If anyone's work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire. 15 If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.
Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? 16 Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you?
If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and you are that temple. 17 If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for God's temple is sacred, and you are that temple.
Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. 18 Do not deceive yourselves. If any one of you thinks he is wise by the standards of this age, he should become a "fool" so that he may become wise.
For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, "He catches the wise in their craftiness," 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God's sight. As it is written: "He catches the wise in their craftiness";
and again, "The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile." 20 and again, "The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile."
So let no one boast in men. For all things are yours, 21 So then, no more boasting about men! All things are yours,
whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future--all are yours, 22 whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future--all are yours,
and you are Christ's, and Christ is God's. 23 and you are of Christ, and Christ is of God.
