King James Version (KJV) New International Version (NIV)
Now in the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam the son of Nebat reigned Abijam over Judah. 1 In the eighteenth year of the reign of Jeroboam son of Nebat, Abijah became king of Judah,
Three years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Maachah, the daughter of Abishalom. 2 and he reigned in Jerusalem three years. His mother's name was Maacah daughter of Abishalom.
And he walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done before him: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father. 3 He committed all the sins his father had done before him; his heart was not fully devoted to the LORD his God, as the heart of David his forefather had been.
Nevertheless for David's sake did the LORD his God give him a lamp in Jerusalem, to set up his son after him, and to establish Jerusalem: 4 Nevertheless, for David's sake the LORD his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem by raising up a son to succeed him and by making Jerusalem strong.
Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, and turned not aside from any thing that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite. 5 For David had done what was right in the eyes of the LORD and had not failed to keep any of the LORD's commands all the days of his life--except in the case of Uriah the Hittite.
And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days of his life. 6 There was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam throughout [Abijah's] lifetime.
Now the rest of the acts of Abijam, and all that he did , are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? And there was war between Abijam and Jeroboam. 7 As for the other events of Abijah's reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? There was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.
