Holman Christian Standard (CSB) New International Version (NIV)
Therefore, since Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same resolve-because the One who suffered in the flesh has finished with sin - 1 Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because he who has suffered in his body is done with sin.
in order to live the remaining time in the flesh, no longer for human desires, but for God's will. 2 As a result, he does not live the rest of his earthly life for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God.
For there has already been enough time spent in doing the will of the pagans: carrying on in unrestrained behavior, evil desires, drunkenness, orgies, carousing, and lawless idolatry. 3 For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do--living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry.
In regard to this, they are surprised that you don't plunge with them into the same flood of dissipation-and they slander you. 4 They think it strange that you do not plunge with them into the same flood of dissipation, and they heap abuse on you.
They will give an account to the One who stands ready to judge the living and the dead. 5 But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
For this reason the gospel was also preached to [those who are now] dead, so that, although they might be judged by men in the fleshly realm, they might live by God in the spiritual realm. 6 For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged according to men in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit.
Now the end of all things is near; therefore, be clear-headed and disciplined for prayer. 7 The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray.
Above all, keep your love for one another at full strength, since love covers a multitude of sins. 8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
Be hospitable to one another without complaining. 9 Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.
Based on the gift they have received, everyone should use it to serve others, as good managers of the varied grace of God. 10 Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms.
If anyone speaks, [his speech should be] like the oracles of God; if anyone serves, [his service should be] from the strength God provides, so that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To Him belong the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen. 11 If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
Dear friends, when the fiery ordeal arises among you to test you, don't be surprised by it, as if something unusual were happening to you. 12 Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you.
Instead, as you share in the sufferings of the Messiah rejoice, so that you may also rejoice with great joy at the revelation of His glory. 13 But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.
If you are ridiculed for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. 14 If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.
None of you, however, should suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as a meddler. 15 If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler.
But if [anyone suffers] as a Christian, he should not be ashamed, but should glorify God with that name. 16 However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name.
For the time has come for judgment to begin with God's household; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who disobey the gospel of God? 17 For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God?
And if the righteous is saved with difficulty, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner? 18 And, "If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?"
So those who suffer according to God's will should, in doing good, entrust themselves to a faithful Creator. 19 So then, those who suffer according to God's will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.
