Lexham English Bible (LEB) New International Version (NIV)
Therefore, [because] Christ suffered in the flesh, you also equip yourselves with the same way of thinking, because the one who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, 1 Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because he who has suffered in his body is done with sin.
in order to live the remaining time in the flesh no longer for human desires, but for the will of God. 2 As a result, he does not live the rest of his earthly life for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God.
For the time that has passed [was] sufficient {to do what the Gentiles desire to do}, having lived in licentiousness, [evil] desires, drunkenness, carousing, drinking parties, and wanton idolatries, 3 For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do--living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry.
with respect to which they are surprised [when] you do not run with [them] into the same flood of dissipation, [and so they] revile [you]. 4 They think it strange that you do not plunge with them into the same flood of dissipation, and they heap abuse on you.
They will give an account to the one who is ready to judge the living and the dead. 5 But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
Because for this reason also the gospel was preached to those who are dead, so that they were judged {by human standards} in the flesh, but they may live in the spirit {by God's standards}. 6 For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged according to men in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit.
