Common English Bible (CEB) New International Version (NIV)
First of all, then, I ask that requests, prayers, petitions, and thanksgiving be made for all people. 1 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone--
Pray for kings and everyone who is in authority so that we can live a quiet and peaceful life in complete godliness and dignity. 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
This is right and it pleases God our savior, 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior,
who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
There is one God and one mediator between God and humanity, the human Christ Jesus, 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
who gave himself as a payment to set all people free. This was a testimony that was given at the right time. 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all men--the testimony given in its proper time.
I was appointed to be a preacher and apostle of this testimony—I'm telling the truth and I'm not lying! I'm a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. 7 And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle--I am telling the truth, I am not lying--and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles.
Therefore, I want men to pray everywhere by lifting up hands that are holy, without anger or argument. 8 I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing.
In the same way, I want women to enhance their appearance with clothing that is modest and sensible, not with elaborate hairstyles, gold, pearls, or expensive clothes. 9 I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes,
They should make themselves attractive by doing good, which is appropriate for women who claim to honor God. 10 but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.
A wife should learn quietly with complete submission. 11 A woman should learn in quietness and full submission.
I don't allow a wife to teach or to control her husband. Instead, she should be a quiet listener. 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.
Adam was formed first, and then Eve. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve.
Adam wasn't deceived, but rather his wife became the one who stepped over the line because she was completely deceived. 14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.
But a wife will be brought safely through giving birth to their children, if they both continue in faith, love, and holiness, together with self-control. 15 But women will be saved through childbearing--if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.
