English Standard Version (ESV) New International Version (NIV)
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 1 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone--
for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior,
who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all men--the testimony given in its proper time.
For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. 7 And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle--I am telling the truth, I am not lying--and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles.
I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling; 8 I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing.
likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, 9 I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes,
but with what is proper for women who profess godliness--with good works. 10 but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.
Let a woman learn quietly with all submissiveness. 11 A woman should learn in quietness and full submission.
I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet. 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.
For Adam was formed first, then Eve; 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve.
and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor. 14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.
Yet she will be saved through childbearing--if they continue in faith and love and holiness, with self-control. 15 But women will be saved through childbearing--if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.
