New Revised Standard (NRS) New International Version (NIV)
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, 1 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone--
for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity. 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
This is right and is acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior,
who desires everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
For there is one God; there is also one mediator between God and humankind, Christ Jesus, himself human, 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
who gave himself a ransom for all —this was attested at the right time. 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all men--the testimony given in its proper time.
For this I was appointed a herald and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. 7 And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle--I am telling the truth, I am not lying--and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles.
I desire, then, that in every place the men should pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or argument; 8 I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing.
also that the women should dress themselves modestly and decently in suitable clothing, not with their hair braided, or with gold, pearls, or expensive clothes, 9 I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes,
but with good works, as is proper for women who profess reverence for God. 10 but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.
Let a woman learn in silence with full submission. 11 A woman should learn in quietness and full submission.
I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she is to keep silent. 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.
For Adam was formed first, then Eve; 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve.
and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor. 14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.
Yet she will be saved through childbearing, provided they continue in faith and love and holiness, with modesty. 15 But women will be saved through childbearing--if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.
