Young's Literal Translation (YLT) New International Version (NIV)
I exhort, then, first of all, there be made supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings, for all men: 1 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone--
for kings, and all who are in authority, that a quiet and peaceable life we may lead in all piety and gravity, 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
for this [is] right and acceptable before God our Saviour, 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior,
who doth will all men to be saved, and to come to the full knowledge of the truth; 4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
for one [is] God, one also [is] mediator of God and of men, the man Christ Jesus, 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
who did give himself a ransom for all -- the testimony in its own times -- 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all men--the testimony given in its proper time.
in regard to which I was set a preacher and apostle -- truth I say in Christ, I do not lie -- a teacher of nations, in faith and truth. 7 And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle--I am telling the truth, I am not lying--and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles.
I wish, therefore, that men pray in every place, lifting up kind hands, apart from anger and reasoning; 8 I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing.
in like manner also the women, in becoming apparel, with modesty and sobriety to adorn themselves, not in braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or garments of great price, 9 I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes,
but -- which becometh women professing godly piety -- through good works. 10 but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.
Let a woman in quietness learn in all subjection, 11 A woman should learn in quietness and full submission.
and a woman I do not suffer to teach, nor to rule a husband, but to be in quietness, 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.
for Adam was first formed, then Eve, 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve.
and Adam was not deceived, but the woman, having been deceived, into transgression came, 14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.
and she shall be saved through the child-bearing, if they remain in faith, and love, and sanctification, with sobriety. 15 But women will be saved through childbearing--if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.
