Good News Translation (GNT) New International Version (NIV)
In our work together with God, then, we beg you who have received God's grace not to let it be wasted. 1 As God's fellow workers we urge you not to receive God's grace in vain.
Hear what God says: "When the time came for me to show you favor, I heard you; when the day arrived for me to save you, I helped you." Listen! This is the hour to receive God's favor; today is the day to be saved! 2 For he says, "In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you." I tell you, now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation.
We do not want anyone to find fault with our work, so we try not to put obstacles in anyone's way. 3 We put no stumbling block in anyone's path, so that our ministry will not be discredited.
Instead, in everything we do we show that we are God's servants by patiently enduring troubles, hardships, and difficulties. 4 Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles, hardships and distresses;
We have been beaten, jailed, and mobbed; we have been overworked and have gone without sleep or food. 5 in beatings, imprisonments and riots; in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger;
By our purity, knowledge, patience, and kindness we have shown ourselves to be God's servants - by the Holy Spirit, by our true love, 6 in purity, understanding, patience and kindness; in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love;
by our message of truth, and by the power of God. We have righteousness as our weapon, both to attack and to defend ourselves. 7 in truthful speech and in the power of God; with weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left;
We are honored and disgraced; we are insulted and praised. We are treated as liars, yet we speak the truth; 8 through glory and dishonor, bad report and good report; genuine, yet regarded as impostors;
as unknown, yet we are known by all; as though we were dead, but, as you see, we live on. Although punished, we are not killed; 9 known, yet regarded as unknown; dying, and yet we live on; beaten, and yet not killed;
although saddened, we are always glad; we seem poor, but we make many people rich; we seem to have nothing, yet we really possess everything. 10 sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything.
Dear friends in Corinth! We have spoken frankly to you; we have opened our hearts wide. 11 We have spoken freely to you, Corinthians, and opened wide our hearts to you.
It is not we who have closed our hearts to you; it is you who have closed your hearts to us. 12 We are not withholding our affection from you, but you are withholding yours from us.
I speak now as though you were my children: show us the same feelings that we have for you. Open your hearts wide! 13 As a fair exchange--I speak as to my children--open wide your hearts also.
Do not try to work together as equals with unbelievers, for it cannot be done. How can right and wrong be partners? How can light and darkness live together? 14 Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?
How can Christ and the Devil agree? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? 15 What harmony is there between Christ and Belial ? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?
How can God's temple come to terms with pagan idols? For we are the temple of the living God! As God himself has said, "I will make my home with my people and live among them; I will be their God, and they shall be my people." 16 What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people."
And so the Lord says, "You must leave them and separate yourselves from them. Have nothing to do with what is unclean, and I will accept you. 17 "Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you."
I will be your father, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty." 18 "I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty."
