1 Lorsque le roi ?z?chias eut entendu cela, il d?chira ses v?tements, se couvrit d'un sac, et alla dans la maison de l'?ternel.

1 When King Hezekiah heard this, he tore his clothes and put on sackcloth and went into the temple of the LORD.
|
|
2 Il envoya ?liakim, chef de la maison du roi, Schebna, le secr?taire, et les plus anciens des sacrificateurs, couverts de sacs, vers ?sa?e, le proph?te, fils d'Amots.
|
2 He sent Eliakim the palace administrator, Shebna the secretary and the leading priests, all wearing sackcloth, to the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz.

3 Et ils lui dirent: Ainsi parle ?z?chias: Ce jour est un jour d'angoisse, de ch?timent et d'opprobre; car les enfants sont pr?s de sortir du sein maternel, et il n'y a point de force pour l'enfantement.

3 They told him, "This is what Hezekiah says: This day is a day of distress and rebuke and disgrace, as when children come to the point of birth and there is no strength to deliver them.
|

4 Peut-?tre l'?ternel, ton Dieu, a-t-il entendu toutes les paroles de Rabschak?, que le roi d'Assyrie, son ma?tre, a envoy? pour insulter au Dieu vivant, et peut-?tre l'?ternel, ton Dieu, exercera-t-il ses ch?timents ? cause des paroles qu'il a entendues. Fais donc monter une pri?re pour le reste qui subsiste encore.

4 It may be that the LORD your God will hear all the words of the field commander, whom his master, the king of Assyria, has sent to ridicule the living God, and that he will rebuke him for the words the LORD your God has heard. Therefore pray for the remnant that still survives."

5 Les serviteurs du roi ?z?chias all?rent donc aupr?s d'?sa?e.

5 When King Hezekiah's officials came to Isaiah,
|
|
6 Et ?sa?e leur dit: Voici ce que vous direz ? votre ma?tre: Ainsi parle l'?ternel: Ne t'effraie point des paroles que tu as entendues et par lesquelles m'ont outrag? les serviteurs du roi d'Assyrie.

6 Isaiah said to them, "Tell your master, 'This is what the LORD says: Do not be afraid of what you have heard--those words with which the underlings of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.
|
|
7 Je vais mettre en lui un esprit tel que, sur une nouvelle qu'il recevra, il retournera dans son pays; et je le ferai tomber par l'?p?e dans son pays.
|
7 Listen! I am going to put such a spirit in him that when he hears a certain report, he will return to his own country, and there I will have him cut down with the sword.' "

8 Rabschak?, s'?tant retir?, trouva le roi d'Assyrie qui attaquait Libna, car il avait appris son d?part de Lakis.
|
8 When the field commander heard that the king of Assyria had left Lachish, he withdrew and found the king fighting against Libnah.
|
|
9 Alors le roi d'Assyrie re?ut une nouvelle au sujet de Tirhaka, roi d'?thiopie; on lui dit: Voici, il s'est mis en marche pour te faire la guerre. Et le roi d'Assyrie envoya de nouveau des messagers ? ?z?chias, en disant:

9 Now Sennacherib received a report that Tirhakah, the Cushite king [of Egypt], was marching out to fight against him. So he again sent messengers to Hezekiah with this word:

10 Vous parlerez ainsi ? ?z?chias, roi de Juda: Que ton Dieu, auquel tu te confies, ne t'abuse point en disant: J?rusalem ne sera pas livr?e entre les mains du roi d'Assyrie.

10 "Say to Hezekiah king of Judah: Do not let the god you depend on deceive you when he says, 'Jerusalem will not be handed over to the king of Assyria.'
|
|
11 Voici, tu as appris ce qu'ont fait les rois d'Assyrie ? tous les pays, et comment ils les ont d?truits; et toi, tu serais d?livr?!
|
11 Surely you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the countries, destroying them completely. And will you be delivered?
|
|
12 Les dieux des nations que mes p?res ont d?truites les ont-ils d?livr?es, Gozan, Charan, Retseph, et les fils d'?den qui sont ? Telassar?
|
12 Did the gods of the nations that were destroyed by my forefathers deliver them: the gods of Gozan, Haran, Rezeph and the people of Eden who were in Tel Assar?
|
|
13 O? sont le roi de Hamath, le roi d'Arpad, et le roi de la ville de Sepharva?m, d'H?na et d'Ivva?
|
13 Where is the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, the king of the city of Sepharvaim, or of Hena or Ivvah?"
|
|
14 ?z?chias prit la lettre de la main des messagers, et la lut. Puis il monta ? la maison de l'?ternel, et la d?ploya devant l'?ternel,
|
14 Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it. Then he went up to the temple of the LORD and spread it out before the LORD.
|
|
15 ? qui il adressa cette pri?re: ?ternel, Dieu d'Isra?l, assis sur les ch?rubins! C'est toi qui es le seul Dieu de tous les royaumes de la terre, c'est toi qui as fait les cieux et la terre.
|
15 And Hezekiah prayed to the LORD: "O LORD, God of Israel, enthroned between the cherubim, you alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.
|
|
16 ?ternel! incline ton oreille, et ?coute. ?ternel! ouvre tes yeux, et regarde. Entends les paroles de Sanch?rib, qui a envoy? Rabschak? pour insulter au Dieu vivant.
|
16 Give ear, O LORD, and hear; open your eyes, O LORD, and see; listen to the words Sennacherib has sent to insult the living God.
|
|
17 Il est vrai, ? ?ternel! que les rois d'Assyrie ont d?truit les nations et ravag? leurs pays,
|
17 "It is true, O LORD, that the Assyrian kings have laid waste these nations and their lands.
|
|
18 et qu'ils ont jet? leurs dieux dans le feu; mais ce n'?taient point des dieux, c'?taient des ouvrages de mains d'homme, du bois et de la pierre; et ils les ont an?antis.
|
18 They have thrown their gods into the fire and destroyed them, for they were not gods but only wood and stone, fashioned by men's hands.
|
|
19 Maintenant, ?ternel, notre Dieu! d?livre-nous de la main de Sanch?rib, et que tous les royaumes de la terre sachent que toi seul es Dieu, ? ?ternel!
|
19 Now, O LORD our God, deliver us from his hand, so that all kingdoms on earth may know that you alone, O LORD, are God."
|
|
20 Alors ?sa?e, fils d'Amots, envoya dire ? ?z?chias: Ainsi parle l'?ternel, le Dieu d'Isra?l: J'ai entendu la pri?re que tu m'as adress?e au sujet de Sanch?rib, roi d'Assyrie.

20 Then Isaiah son of Amoz sent a message to Hezekiah: "This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I have heard your prayer concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria.
|

21 Voici la parole que l'?ternel a prononc?e contre lui: Elle te m?prise, elle se moque de toi, La vierge, fille de Sion; Elle hoche la t?te apr?s toi, La fille de J?rusalem.
|
21 This is the word that the LORD has spoken against him: " 'The Virgin Daughter of Zion despises you and mocks you. The Daughter of Jerusalem tosses her head as you flee.
|
|
22 Qui as-tu insult? et outrag?? Contre qui as-tu ?lev? la voix? Tu as port? tes yeux en haut Sur le Saint d'Isra?l!
|
22 Who is it you have insulted and blasphemed? Against whom have you raised your voice and lifted your eyes in pride? Against the Holy One of Israel!
|
|
23 Par tes messagers tu as insult? le Seigneur, Et tu as dit: Avec la multitude de mes chars, J'ai gravi le sommet des montagnes, Les extr?mit?s du Liban; Je couperai les plus ?lev?s de ses c?dres, Les plus beaux de ses cypr?s, Et j'atteindrai sa derni?re cime, Sa for?t semblable ? un verger;

23 By your messengers you have heaped insults on the Lord. And you have said, "With my many chariots I have ascended the heights of the mountains, the utmost heights of Lebanon. I have cut down its tallest cedars, the choicest of its pines. I have reached its remotest parts, the finest of its forests.

24 J'ai creus?, et j'ai bu des eaux ?trang?res, Et je tarirai avec la plante de mes pieds Tous les fleuves de l'?gypte.
|
24 I have dug wells in foreign lands and drunk the water there. With the soles of my feet I have dried up all the streams of Egypt."
|
|
25 N'as-tu pas appris que j'ai pr?par? ces choses de loin, Et que je les ai r?solues d?s les temps anciens? Maintenant j'ai permis qu'elles s'accomplissent, Et que tu r?duisisses des villes fortes en monceaux de ruines.

25 " 'Have you not heard? Long ago I ordained it. In days of old I planned it; now I have brought it to pass, that you have turned fortified cities into piles of stone.
|
|
26 Leurs habitants sont impuissants, ?pouvant?s et confus; Ils sont comme l'herbe des champs et la tendre verdure, Comme le gazon des toits Et le bl? qui s?che avant la formation de sa tige.
|
26 Their people, drained of power, are dismayed and put to shame. They are like plants in the field, like tender green shoots, like grass sprouting on the roof, scorched before it grows up.
|
|
27 Mais je sais quand tu t'assieds, quand tu sors et quand tu entres, Et quand tu es furieux contre moi.
|
27 " 'But I know where you stay and when you come and go and how you rage against me.
|
|
28 Parce que tu es furieux contre moi, Et que ton arrogance est mont?e ? mes oreilles, Je mettrai ma boucle ? tes narines et mon mors entre tes l?vres, Et je te ferai retourner par le chemin par lequel tu es venu.
|
28 Because you rage against me and your insolence has reached my ears, I will put my hook in your nose and my bit in your mouth, and I will make you return by the way you came.'
|
|
29 Que ceci soit un signe pour toi: On a mang? une ann?e le produit du grain tomb?, et une seconde ann?e ce qui cro?t de soi-m?me; mais la troisi?me ann?e, vous s?merez, vous moissonnerez, vous planterez des vignes, et vous en mangerez le fruit.
|
29 "This will be the sign for you, O Hezekiah: "This year you will eat what grows by itself, and the second year what springs from that. But in the third year sow and reap, plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
|
|
30 Ce qui aura ?t? sauv? de la maison de Juda, ce qui sera rest? poussera encore des racines par-dessous, et portera du fruit par-dessus.
|
30 Once more a remnant of the house of Judah will take root below and bear fruit above.
|
|
31 Car de J?rusalem il sortira un reste, et de la montagne de Sion des r?chapp?s. Voil? ce que fera le z?le de l'?ternel des arm?es.
|
31 For out of Jerusalem will come a remnant, and out of Mount Zion a band of survivors. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.
|
|
32 C'est pourquoi ainsi parle l'?ternel sur le roi d'Assyrie: Il n'entrera point dans cette ville, Il n'y lancera point de traits, Il ne lui pr?sentera point de boucliers, Et il n'?l?vera point de retranchements contre elle.
|
32 "Therefore this is what the LORD says concerning the king of Assyria: "He will not enter this city or shoot an arrow here. He will not come before it with shield or build a siege ramp against it.
|
|
33 Il s'en retournera par le chemin par lequel il est venu, Et il n'entrera point dans cette ville, dit l'?ternel.
|
33 By the way that he came he will return; he will not enter this city, declares the LORD.
|
|
34 Je prot?gerai cette ville pour la sauver, A cause de moi, et ? cause de David, mon serviteur.
|
34 I will defend this city and save it, for my sake and for the sake of David my servant."
|
|
35 Cette nuit-l?, l'ange de l'?ternel sortit, et frappa dans le camp des Assyriens cent quatre-vingt-cinq mille hommes. Et quand on se leva le matin, voici, c'?taient tous des corps morts.
|
35 That night the angel of the LORD went out and put to death a hundred and eighty-five thousand men in the Assyrian camp. When the people got up the next morning--there were all the dead bodies!
|
|
36 Alors Sanch?rib, roi d'Assyrie, leva son camp, partit et s'en retourna; et il resta ? Ninive.
|
36 So Sennacherib king of Assyria broke camp and withdrew. He returned to Nineveh and stayed there.
|
|
37 Or, comme il ?tait prostern? dans la maison de Nisroc, son dieu, Adramm?lec et Scharetser, ses fils, le frapp?rent avec l'?p?e, et s'enfuirent au pays d'Ararat. Et ?sar-Haddon, son fils, r?gna ? sa place.
|
37 One day, while he was worshiping in the temple of his god Nisroch, his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer cut him down with the sword, and they escaped to the land of Ararat. And Esarhaddon his son succeeded him as king.
