This letter is from Paul, Silas, and Timothy. It is written to the church in Thessalonica, you who belong to God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Paul, Silas and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:
May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace. 2 Grace and peace to you from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Dear brothers and sisters, we always thank God for you, as is right, for we are thankful that your faith is flourishing and you are all growing in love for each other. 3 We ought always to thank God for you, brothers, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love every one of you has for each other is increasing.
We proudly tell God's other churches about your endurance and faithfulness in all the persecutions and hardships you are suffering. 4 Therefore, among God's churches we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring.
But God will use this persecution to show his justice. For he will make you worthy of his Kingdom, for which you are suffering, 5 All this is evidence that God's judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering.
and in his justice he will punish those who persecute you. 6 God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you
And God will provide rest for you who are being persecuted and also for us when the Lord Jesus appears from heaven. He will come with his mighty angels, 7 and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels.
in flaming fire, bringing judgment on those who don't know God and on those who refuse to obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus. 8 He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
They will be punished with everlasting destruction, forever separated from the Lord and from his glorious power 9 They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the majesty of his power
when he comes to receive glory and praise from his holy people. And you will be among those praising him on that day, for you believed what we testified about him. 10 on the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you.
And so we keep on praying for you, that our God will make you worthy of the life to which he called you. And we pray that God, by his power, will fulfill all your good intentions and faithful deeds. 11 With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith.
Then everyone will give honor to the name of our Lord Jesus because of you, and you will be honored along with him. This is all made possible because of the undeserved favor of our God and Lord, Jesus Christ. 12 We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
