Lexham English Bible (LEB) New International Version (NIV)
Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may progress and be honored, just as also [it was] with you, 1 Finally, brothers, pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you.
and that we may be delivered from evil and wicked people, {for not all have the faith}. 2 And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men, for not everyone has faith.
But the Lord is faithful, who will strengthen you and guard [you] from the evil one. 3 But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.
And we have confidence in the Lord about you, that you are both doing and you will do [the things] that we are commanding. 4 We have confidence in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do the things we command.
Now may the Lord direct your hearts toward the love of God and toward the patient endurance of Christ. 5 May the Lord direct your hearts into God's love and Christ's perseverance.
But we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, [that] you keep away from every brother who lives irresponsibly and not according to the tradition that they received from us. 6 In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers, to keep away from every brother who is idle and does not live according to the teaching you received from us.
For you yourselves know how it is necessary to imitate us, that we did not behave irresponsibly among you, 7 For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you,
nor did we eat bread from anyone without paying, but with toil and labor, [we were] working night and day in order not to be a burden to any of you, 8 nor did we eat anyone's food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you.
not that we do not have the right, but so that we may give ourselves [as] an example to you, so that [you] may imitate us. 9 We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to make ourselves a model for you to follow.
For even when we were with you, we used to command this to you: that if anyone does not want to work, neither should he eat. 10 For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "If a man will not work, he shall not eat."
For we hear [that] some among you are living irresponsibly, working [at] nothing, but being busybodies. 11 We hear that some among you are idle. They are not busy; they are busybodies.
Now we command and we exhort such people in the Lord Jesus Christ that, working with quietness, they eat their own bread. 12 Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the bread they eat.
But [as for] you, brothers, do not be discouraged [while] doing what is right. 13 And as for you, brothers, never tire of doing what is right.
But if anyone does not obey our message through this letter, take note not to associate with him, in order that he may be put to shame. 14 If anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter, take special note of him. Do not associate with him, in order that he may feel ashamed.
And do not consider [him] as an enemy, but admonish [him] as a brother. 15 Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but warn him as a brother.
Now may the Lord of peace himself grant you peace through everything in every way. [May] the Lord [be] with all of you. 16 Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.
The greeting [is] by my hand, Paul's, which is {a sign of genuineness} in every letter: {this is how I write}. 17 I, Paul, write this greeting in my own hand, which is the distinguishing mark in all my letters. This is how I write.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [be] with all of you. 18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
