1 Tú, pues, hijo mío, fortalécete en la gracia que hay en Cristo Jesús.

1 You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

2 Y lo que has oído de mí en la presencia de muchos testigos, eso encarga a hombres fieles que sean idóneos para enseñar también a otros.
|
2 And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.
|
|
3 Sufre penalidades conmigo, como buen soldado de Cristo Jesús.
|
3 Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
|
|
4 Ningún soldado en servicio activo se enreda en los negocios de la vida diaria, a fin de poder agradar al que lo reclutó como soldado.
|
4 No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs--he wants to please his commanding officer.
|
|
5 Y también el que compite como atleta, no gana el premio si no compite de acuerdo con las reglas.
|
5 Similarly, if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not receive the victor's crown unless he competes according to the rules.
|
|
6 El labrador que trabaja debe ser el primero en recibir su parte de los frutos.
|
6 The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops.
|
|
7 Considera lo que digo, pues el Señor te dará entendimiento en todo.
|
7 Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this.
|
|
8 Acuérdate de Jesucristo, resucitado de entre los muertos, descendiente de David, conforme a mi evangelio;
|
8 Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel,
|
|
9 por el cual sufro penalidades, hasta el encarcelamiento como un malhechor; pero la palabra de Dios no está presa.
|
9 for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God's word is not chained.
|
|
10 Por tanto, todo lo soporto por amor a los escogidos, para que también ellos obtengan la salvación que está en Cristo Jesús, y con ella gloria eterna.
|
10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.
|
|
11 Palabra fiel es ésta: Que si morimos con El, también viviremos con El;
|
11 Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him;
|
|
12 si perseveramos, también reinaremos con El; si le negamos, El también nos negará;
|
12 if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us;
|
|
13 si somos infieles, El permanece fiel, pues no puede negarse a sí mismo.
|
13 if we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself.
|
|
14 Recuérdales esto, encargándoles solemnemente en la presencia de Dios, que no contiendan sobre palabras, lo cual para nada aprovecha y lleva a los oyentes a la ruina.
|
14 Keep reminding them of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen.
|
|
15 Procura con diligencia presentarte a Dios aprobado, como obrero que no tiene de qué avergonzarse, que maneja con precisión la palabra de verdad.
|
15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.
|
|
16 Evita las palabrerías vacías y profanas, porque los dados a ellas, conducirán más y más a la impiedad,
|
16 Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly.
|
|
17 y su palabra se extenderá como gangrena; entre los cuales están Himeneo y Fileto,
|
17 Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus,
|
|
18 que se han desviado de la verdad diciendo que la resurrección ya tuvo lugar, trastornando así la fe de algunos.
|
18 who have wandered away from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some.
|
|
19 No obstante, el sólido fundamento de Dios permanece firme, teniendo este sello: El Señor conoce a los que son suyos, y: Que se aparte de la iniquidad todo aquel que menciona el nombre del Señor.
|
19 Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness."
|
|
20 Ahora bien, en una casa grande no solamente hay vasos de oro y de plata, sino también de madera y de barro, y unos para honra y otros para deshonra.
|
20 In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for noble purposes and some for ignoble.
|
|
21 Por tanto, si alguno se limpia de estas cosas, será un vaso para honra, santificado, útil para el Señor, preparado para toda buena obra.
|
21 If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.
|
|
22 Huye, pues, de las pasiones juveniles y sigue la justicia, la fe, el amor y la paz, con los que invocan al Señor con un corazón puro.
|
22 Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
|
|
23 Pero rechaza los razonamientos necios e ignorantes, sabiendo que producen altercados.
|
23 Don't have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels.
|
|
24 Y el siervo del Señor no debe ser rencilloso, sino amable para con todos, apto para enseñar, sufrido,
|
24 And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful.
|
|
25 corrigiendo tiernamente a los que se oponen, por si acaso Dios les da el arrepentimiento que conduce al pleno conocimiento de la verdad,
|
25 Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth,
|
|
26 y volviendo en sí, escapen del lazo del diablo, habiendo estado cautivos de él para hacer su voluntad.
|
26 and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.
|
