King James Version (KJV) New International Version (NIV)
I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; 1 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge:
Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove , rebuke , exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. 2 Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction.
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 3 For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.
And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.
But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions , do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. 5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.
For I am now ready to be offered , and the time of my departure is at hand . 6 For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day--and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
