New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
This letter is from Simon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ.I am writing to all of you who share the same precious faith we have, faith given to us by Jesus Christ, our God and Savior, who makes us right with God. 1 Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours:
May God bless you with his special favor and wonderful peace as you come to know Jesus, our God and Lord, better and better. 2 Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
As we know Jesus better, his divine power gives us everything we need for living a godly life. He has called us to receive his own glory and goodness! 3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
And by that same mighty power, he has given us all of his rich and wonderful promises. He has promised that you will escape the decadence all around you caused by evil desires and that you will share in his divine nature. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
So make every effort to apply the benefits of these promises to your life. Then your faith will produce a life of moral excellence. A life of moral excellence leads to knowing God better. 5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge;
Knowing God leads to self-control. Self-control leads to patient endurance, and patient endurance leads to godliness. 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness;
Godliness leads to love for other Christians, and finally you will grow to have genuine love for everyone. 7 and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.
