Revised Standard Version (RSV) New International Version (NIV)
His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, 3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, that through these you may escape from the corruption that is in the world because of passion, and become partakers of the divine nature. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
For this very reason make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, 5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge;
and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness;
and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. 7 and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.
For if these things are yours and abound, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
For whoever lacks these things is blind and shortsighted and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. 9 But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins.
Therefore, brethren, be the more zealous to confirm your call and election, for if you do this you will never fall; 10 Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall,
so there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 11 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
