New King James Version (NKJV) New International Version (NIV)
Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be glorified, just as it is with you, 1 Finally, brothers, pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you.
and that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men; for not all have faith. 2 And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men, for not everyone has faith.
But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one. 3 But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.
And we have confidence in the Lord concerning you, both that you do and will do the things we command you. 4 We have confidence in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do the things we command.
Now may the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the patience of Christ. 5 May the Lord direct your hearts into God's love and Christ's perseverance.
But we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw from every brother who walks disorderly and not according to the tradition which he received from us. 6 In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers, to keep away from every brother who is idle and does not live according to the teaching you received from us.
For you yourselves know how you ought to follow us, for we were not disorderly among you; 7 For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you,
nor did we eat anyone's bread free of charge, but worked with labor and toil night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, 8 nor did we eat anyone's food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you.
not because we do not have authority, but to make ourselves an example of how you should follow us. 9 We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to make ourselves a model for you to follow.
For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat. 10 For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "If a man will not work, he shall not eat."
For we hear that there are some who walk among you in a disorderly manner, not working at all, but are busybodies. 11 We hear that some among you are idle. They are not busy; they are busybodies.
Now those who are such we command and exhort through our Lord Jesus Christ that they work in quietness and eat their own bread. 12 Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the bread they eat.
But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary in doing good. 13 And as for you, brothers, never tire of doing what is right.
And if anyone does not obey our word in this epistle, note that person and do not keep company with him, that he may be ashamed. 14 If anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter, take special note of him. Do not associate with him, in order that he may feel ashamed.
Yet do not count him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother. 15 Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but warn him as a brother.
Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with you all. 16 Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.
The salutation of Paul with my own hand, which is a sign in every epistle; so I write. 17 I, Paul, write this greeting in my own hand, which is the distinguishing mark in all my letters. This is how I write.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. 18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
