Weymouth New Testament (WNT) New International Version (NIV)
I solemnly implore you, in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus who is about to judge the living and the dead, and by His Appearing and His Kingship: 1 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge:
proclaim God's message, be zealous in season and out of season; convince, rebuke, encourage, with the utmost patience as a teacher. 2 Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction.
For a time is coming when they will not tolerate wholesome instruction, but, wanting to have their ears tickled, they will find a multitude of teachers to satisfy their own fancies; 3 For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.
and will turn away from listening to the truth and will turn aside to fables. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.
But as for you, you must exercise habitual self-control, and not live a self-indulgent life, but do the duty of an evangelist and fully discharge the obligations of your office. 5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.
I for my part am like a drink-offering which is already being poured out; and the time for my departure is now close at hand. 6 For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure.
I have gone through the glorious contest; I have run the race; I have guarded the faith. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
From this time onward there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but also to all who love the thought of His Appearing. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day--and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
Make an effort to come to me speedily. 9 Do your best to come to me quickly,
For Demas has deserted me--loving, as he does, the present age--and has gone to Thessalonica; Crescens has gone to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia. 10 for Demas, because he loved this world, has deserted me and has gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia.
Luke is the only friend I now have with me. Call for Mark on your way and bring him with you, for he is a great help to me in my ministry. 11 Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, because he is helpful to me in my ministry.
Tychicus I have sent to Ephesus. 12 I sent Tychicus to Ephesus.
When you come, bring with you the cloak which I left behind at Troas at the house of Carpus, and the books, but especially the parchments. 13 When you come, bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas, and my scrolls, especially the parchments.
Alexander the metal-worker showed bitter hostility towards me: the Lord will requite him according to his doings. 14 Alexander the metalworker did me a great deal of harm. The Lord will repay him for what he has done.
You also should beware of him; for he has violently opposed our preaching. 15 You too should be on your guard against him, because he strongly opposed our message.
At my first defence I had no one at my side, but all deserted me. May it not be laid to their charge. 16 At my first defense, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them.
The Lord, however, stood by me and filled me with inward strength, that through me the Message might be fully proclaimed and that all the Gentiles might hear it; and I was rescued from the lion's jaws. 17 But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion's mouth.
The Lord will deliver me from every cruel attack and will keep me safe in preparation for His heavenly Kingdom. To Him be the glory until the Ages of the Ages! Amen. 18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Greet Prisca and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus. 19 Greet Priscilla and Aquila and the household of Onesiphorus.
Erastus stayed in Corinth; Trophimus I left behind me at Miletus, ill. 20 Erastus stayed in Corinth, and I left Trophimus sick in Miletus.
Make an effort to come before winter. Eubulus greets you, and so do Pudens, Linus, Claudia, and all the brethren. 21 Do your best to get here before winter. Eubulus greets you, and so do Pudens, Linus, Claudia and all the brothers.
The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you all. 22 The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you.
