New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
They went ahead and waited for us at Troas. 5 These men went on ahead and waited for us at Troas.
As soon as the Passover season ended, we boarded a ship at Philippi in Macedonia and five days later arrived in Troas, where we stayed a week. 6 But we sailed from Philippi after the Feast of Unleavened Bread, and five days later joined the others at Troas, where we stayed seven days.
On the first day of the week, we gathered to observe the Lord's Supper. Paul was preaching; and since he was leaving the next day, he talked until midnight. 7 On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight.
The upstairs room where we met was lighted with many flickering lamps. 8 There were many lamps in the upstairs room where we were meeting.
As Paul spoke on and on, a young man named Eutychus, sitting on the windowsill, became very drowsy. Finally, he sank into a deep sleep and fell three stories to his death below. 9 Seated in a window was a young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep as Paul talked on and on. When he was sound asleep, he fell to the ground from the third story and was picked up dead.
Paul went down, bent over him, and took him into his arms. "Don't worry," he said, "he's alive!" 10 Paul went down, threw himself on the young man and put his arms around him. "Don't be alarmed," he said. "He's alive!"
Then they all went back upstairs and ate the Lord's Supper together. And Paul continued talking to them until dawn; then he left. 11 Then he went upstairs again and broke bread and ate. After talking until daylight, he left.
Meanwhile, the young man was taken home unhurt, and everyone was greatly relieved. 12 The people took the young man home alive and were greatly comforted.
Paul went by land to Assos, where he had arranged for us to join him, and we went on ahead by ship. 13 We went on ahead to the ship and sailed for Assos, where we were going to take Paul aboard. He had made this arrangement because he was going there on foot.
He joined us there and we sailed together to Mitylene. 14 When he met us at Assos, we took him aboard and went on to Mitylene.
The next day we passed the island of Kios. The following day, we crossed to the island of Samos. And a day later we arrived at Miletus. 15 The next day we set sail from there and arrived off Kios. The day after that we crossed over to Samos, and on the following day arrived at Miletus.
