"You shall not utter a false report. You shall not join hands with a wicked man, to be a malicious witness. 1 "Do not spread false reports. Do not help a wicked man by being a malicious witness.
You shall not follow a multitude to do evil; nor shall you bear witness in a suit, turning aside after a multitude, so as to pervert justice; 2 "Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you give testimony in a lawsuit, do not pervert justice by siding with the crowd,
nor shall you be partial to a poor man in his suit. 3 and do not show favoritism to a poor man in his lawsuit.
"If you meet your enemy's ox or his ass going astray, you shall bring it back to him 4 "If you come across your enemy's ox or donkey wandering off, be sure to take it back to him.
If you see the ass of one who hates you lying under its burden, you shall refrain from leaving him with it, you shall help him to lift it up. 5 If you see the donkey of someone who hates you fallen down under its load, do not leave it there; be sure you help him with it.
"You shall not pervert the justice due to your poor in his suit. 6 "Do not deny justice to your poor people in their lawsuits.
Keep far from a false charge, and do not slay the innocent and righteous, for I will not acquit the wicked. 7 Have nothing to do with a false charge and do not put an innocent or honest person to death, for I will not acquit the guilty.
And you shall take no bribe, for a bribe blinds the officials, and subverts the cause of those who are in the right. 8 "Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds those who see and twists the words of the righteous.
"You shall not oppress a stranger; you know the heart of a stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt. 9 "Do not oppress an alien; you yourselves know how it feels to be aliens, because you were aliens in Egypt.
