Lexham English Bible (LEB) New International Version (NIV)
And heaven and earth and all their array were finished. 1 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.
And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. 2 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.
And God blessed the seventh day, and he sanctified it, because on it he rested from all his work {of creating that [there was] to do}. 3 And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
These are the generations of heaven and earth when they were created, in the day [that] Yahweh God made earth and heaven-- 4 This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created. When the LORD God made the earth and the heavens--
{before any plant of the field was} on earth, and [before] {any plant of the field} had sprung up, because Yahweh God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was no human being to cultivate the ground, 5 and no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth and no plant of the field had yet sprung up, for the LORD God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no man to work the ground,
but a stream [would] rise from the earth and water the whole face of the ground-- 6 but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground--
when Yahweh God formed the man [of] dust from the ground, and he blew into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature. 7 the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
And Yahweh God planted a garden in Eden in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed. 8 Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed.
And Yahweh God caused to grow every tree [that] was pleasing to the sight and good for food. And the tree of life [was] in the midst of the garden, {along with} the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. 9 And the LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground--trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Now a river flowed out from Eden that watered the garden, and from there it diverged and became four branches. 10 A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters.
The name of the first [is] the Pishon. It went around all the land of Havilah, where [there is] gold. 11 The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold.
(The gold of that land [is] good; bdellium and onyx stones [are] there.) 12 (The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin and onyx are also there.)
And the name of the second [is] Gihon. It went around all the land of Cush. 13 The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the entire land of Cush.
And the name of the third [is] Tigris. It flows east of Assyria. And the fourth river [is] the Euphrates. 14 The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Asshur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.
And Yahweh God took the man and set him in the garden of Eden to cultivate it and to keep it. 15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.
And Yahweh God commanded the man, saying, "From every tree of the garden {you may freely eat}, 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden;
but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day {that you eat} from it {you shall surely die}." 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die."
Then Yahweh God said, "[it is] not good [that] the man is alone. I will make for him a helper {as his counterpart}." 18 The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."
And out of the ground Yahweh God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and he brought [each] to the man to see what he would call it. And whatever the man called that living creature [was] its name. 19 Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name.
And the man {gave names} to every domesticated animal and to the birds of heaven and to all the wild animals. But for [the] man there was not found a helper {as his counterpart}. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field. But for Adam no suitable helper was found.
And Yahweh God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man. While he slept, he took one of his ribs, and closed up {the flesh where it had been}. 21 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh.
And Yahweh God fashioned the rib which he had taken from the man into a woman and brought her to the man. 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
And the man said, "{She is now} bone from my bones and flesh from my flesh; {she} shall be called 'Woman,' for {she was taken} from man." 23 The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman, ' for she was taken out of man."
Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and shall cling to his wife, and they shall be as one flesh. 24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.
And the man and his wife, both of them, were naked, and they were not ashamed. 25 The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.
