World English Bible (WEB) New International Version (NIV)
Moses spoke to the heads of the tribes of the children of Israel, saying, This is the thing which Yahweh has commanded. 1 Moses said to the heads of the tribes of Israel: "This is what the LORD commands:
When a man vows a vow to Yahweh, or swears an oath to bind his soul with a bond, he shall not break his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth. 2 When a man makes a vow to the LORD or takes an oath to obligate himself by a pledge, he must not break his word but must do everything he said.
Also when a woman vows a vow to Yahweh, and binds herself by a bond, being in her father's house, in her youth, 3 "When a young woman still living in her father's house makes a vow to the LORD or obligates herself by a pledge
and her father hears her vow, and her bond with which she has bound her soul, and her father holds his peace at her; then all her vows shall stand, and every bond with which she has bound her soul shall stand. 4 and her father hears about her vow or pledge but says nothing to her, then all her vows and every pledge by which she obligated herself will stand.
But if her father disallow her in the day that he hears, none of her vows, or of her bonds with which she has bound her soul, shall stand: and Yahweh will forgive her, because her father disallowed her. 5 But if her father forbids her when he hears about it, none of her vows or the pledges by which she obligated herself will stand; the LORD will release her because her father has forbidden her.
If she be [married] to a husband, while her vows are on her, or the rash utterance of her lips, with which she has bound her soul, 6 "If she marries after she makes a vow or after her lips utter a rash promise by which she obligates herself
and her husband hear it, and hold his peace at her in the day that he hears it; then her vows shall stand, and her bonds with which she has bound her soul shall stand. 7 and her husband hears about it but says nothing to her, then her vows or the pledges by which she obligated herself will stand.
But if her husband disallow her in the day that he hears it, then he shall make void her vow which is on her, and the rash utterance of her lips, with which she has bound her soul: and Yahweh will forgive her. 8 But if her husband forbids her when he hears about it, he nullifies the vow that obligates her or the rash promise by which she obligates herself, and the LORD will release her.
But the vow of a widow, or of her who is divorced, [even] everything with which she has bound her soul, shall stand against her. 9 "Any vow or obligation taken by a widow or divorced woman will be binding on her.
If she vowed in her husband's house, or bound her soul by a bond with an oath, 10 "If a woman living with her husband makes a vow or obligates herself by a pledge under oath
and her husband heard it, and held his peace at her, and didn't disallow her; then all her vows shall stand, and every bond with which she bound her soul shall stand. 11 and her husband hears about it but says nothing to her and does not forbid her, then all her vows or the pledges by which she obligated herself will stand.
But if her husband made them null and void in the day that he heard them, then whatever proceeded out of her lips concerning her vows, or concerning the bond of her soul, shall not stand: her husband has made them void; and Yahweh will forgive her. 12 But if her husband nullifies them when he hears about them, then none of the vows or pledges that came from her lips will stand. Her husband has nullified them, and the LORD will release her.
Every vow, and every binding oath to afflict the soul, her husband may establish it, or her husband may make it void. 13 Her husband may confirm or nullify any vow she makes or any sworn pledge to deny herself.
But if her husband altogether hold his peace at her from day to day, then he establishes all her vows, or all her bonds, which are on her: he has established them, because he held his peace at her in the day that he heard them. 14 But if her husband says nothing to her about it from day to day, then he confirms all her vows or the pledges binding on her. He confirms them by saying nothing to her when he hears about them.
But if he shall make them null and void after that he has heard them, then he shall bear her iniquity. 15 If, however, he nullifies them some time after he hears about them, then he is responsible for her guilt."
These are the statutes, which Yahweh commanded Moses, between a man and his wife, between a father and his daughter, being in her youth, in her father's house. 16 These are the regulations the LORD gave Moses concerning relationships between a man and his wife, and between a father and his young daughter still living in his house.
