1 Figliuoli, ascoltate l’istruzione di un padre, e state attenti a imparare il discernimento;

1 Listen, my sons, to a father's instruction; pay attention and gain understanding.
|

2 perché io vi do una buona dottrina; non abbandonate il mio insegnamento.
|
2 I give you sound learning, so do not forsake my teaching.
|
|
3 Quand’ero ancora fanciullo presso mio padre, tenero ed unico presso mia madre,
|
3 When I was a boy in my father's house, still tender, and an only child of my mother,
|
|
4 egli mi ammaestrava e mi diceva: "Il tuo cuore ritenga le mie parole; osserva i miei comandamenti, e vivrai.
|
4 he taught me and said, "Lay hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands and you will live.
|
|
5 Acquista sapienza, acquista intelligenza; non dimenticare le parole della mia bocca, e non te ne sviare;
|
5 Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or swerve from them.
|
|
6 non abbandonare la sapienza, ed essa ti custodirà; amala, ed essa ti proteggerà.
|
6 Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you.
|
|
7 Il principio della sapienza è: Acquista la sapienza. Sì, a costo di quanto possiedi, acquista l’intelligenza.
|
7 Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.
|
|
8 Esaltala, ed essa t’innalzerà; essa ti coprirà di gloria, quando l’avrai abbracciata.
|
8 Esteem her, and she will exalt you; embrace her, and she will honor you.
|
|
9 Essa ti metterà sul capo una corona di grazia, ti farà dono d’un magnifico diadema".
|
9 She will set a garland of grace on your head and present you with a crown of splendor."
|
|
10 Ascolta, figliuol mio, ricevi le mie parole, e anni di vita ti saranno moltiplicati.
|
10 Listen, my son, accept what I say, and the years of your life will be many.
|
|
11 Io ti mostro la via della sapienza, t’avvio per i sentieri della rettitudine.
|
11 I guide you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths.
|
|
12 Se cammini, i tuoi passi non saran raccorciati; e se corri, non inciamperai.
|
12 When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; when you run, you will not stumble.
|
|
13 Afferra saldamente l’istruzione, non la lasciar andare; serbala, perch’essa è la tua vita.
|
13 Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life.
|
|
14 Non entrare nel sentiero degli empi, e non t’inoltrare per la via de’ malvagi;
|
14 Do not set foot on the path of the wicked or walk in the way of evil men.
|
|
15 schivala, non passare per essa; allontanatene, e va’ oltre.
|
15 Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn from it and go on your way.
|
|
16 Poiché essi non posson dormire se non han fatto del male, e il sonno è loro tolto se non han fatto cader qualcuno.
|
16 For they cannot sleep till they do evil; they are robbed of slumber till they make someone fall.
|
|
17 Essi mangiano il pane dell’empietà, e bevono il vino della violenza;
|
17 They eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence.
|
|
18 ma il sentiero dei giusti è come la luce che spunta e va vie più risplendendo, finché sia giorno perfetto.
|
18 The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.
|
|
19 La via degli empi è come il buio; essi non scorgono ciò che li farà cadere.
|
19 But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble.
|
|
20 Figliuol mio, sta’ attento alle mie parole, inclina l’orecchio ai miei detti;
|
20 My son, pay attention to what I say; listen closely to my words.
|
|
21 non si dipartano mai dai tuoi occhi, serbali nel fondo del cuore;
|
21 Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart;
|
|
22 poiché sono vita per quelli che li trovano, e salute per tutto il loro corpo.
|
22 for they are life to those who find them and health to a man's whole body.
|
|
23 Custodisci il tuo cuore più d’ogni altra cosa, poiché da esso procedono le sorgenti della vita.
|
23 Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.
|
|
24 Rimuovi da te la perversità della bocca, e allontana da te la falsità delle labbra.
|
24 Put away perversity from your mouth; keep corrupt talk far from your lips.
|
|
25 Gli occhi tuoi guardino bene in faccia, e le tue palpebre si dirigano dritto davanti a te.
|
25 Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you.
|
|
26 Appiana il sentiero dei tuoi piedi, e tutte le tue vie siano ben preparate.
|
26 Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm.
|
|
27 Non piegare né a destra né a sinistra, ritira il tuo piede dal male.
|
27 Do not swerve to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.
