The Webster Bible (WBT) New International Version (NIV)
Whoever loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof [is] brutish. 1 Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid.
A good [man] obtaineth favor from the LORD: but a man of wicked devices he will condemn. 2 A good man obtains favor from the LORD, but the LORD condemns a crafty man.
A man shall not be established by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved. 3 A man cannot be established through wickedness, but the righteous cannot be uprooted.
A virtuous woman [is] a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed [is] as rottenness in his bones. 4 A wife of noble character is her husband's crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones.
The thoughts of the righteous [are] right: [but] the counsels of the wicked [are] deceit. 5 The plans of the righteous are just, but the advice of the wicked is deceitful.
The words of the wicked [are] to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them. 6 The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood, but the speech of the upright rescues them.
The wicked are overthrown, and [are] not: but the house of the righteous shall stand. 7 Wicked men are overthrown and are no more, but the house of the righteous stands firm.
A man shall be commended according to his wisdom: but he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised. 8 A man is praised according to his wisdom, but men with warped minds are despised.
[He that is] despised, and hath a servant, [is] better than he that honoreth himself, and is destitute of bread. 9 Better to be a nobody and yet have a servant than pretend to be somebody and have no food.
A righteous [man] regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked [are] cruel. 10 A righteous man cares for the needs of his animal, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.
He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain [persons is] void of understanding. 11 He who works his land will have abundant food, but he who chases fantasies lacks judgment.
The wicked desireth the net of evil [men]: but the root of the righteous yieldeth [fruit]. 12 The wicked desire the plunder of evil men, but the root of the righteous flourishes.
The wicked is snared by the transgression of [his] lips: but the just shall come out of trouble. 13 An evil man is trapped by his sinful talk, but a righteous man escapes trouble.
A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of [his] mouth: and the recompense of a man's hands shall be rendered to him. 14 From the fruit of his lips a man is filled with good things as surely as the work of his hands rewards him.
The way of a fool [is] right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth to counsel [is] wise. 15 The way of a fool seems right to him, but a wise man listens to advice.
A fool's wrath is presently known: but a prudent [man] covereth shame. 16 A fool shows his annoyance at once, but a prudent man overlooks an insult.
[He that] speaketh truth showeth forth righteousness: but a false witness, deceit. 17 A truthful witness gives honest testimony, but a false witness tells lies.
There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise [is] health. 18 Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue [is] but for a moment. 19 Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment.
Deceit [is] in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counselors of peace [is] joy. 20 There is deceit in the hearts of those who plot evil, but joy for those who promote peace.
There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief. 21 No harm befalls the righteous, but the wicked have their fill of trouble.
Lying lips [are] abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly [are] his delight. 22 The LORD detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful.
A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness. 23 A prudent man keeps his knowledge to himself, but the heart of fools blurts out folly.
The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute. 24 Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in slave labor.
Heaviness in the heart of man depresseth it: but a good word maketh it glad. 25 An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up.
The righteous [is] more excellent than his neighbor: but the way of the wicked seduceth them. 26 A righteous man is cautious in friendship, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.
The slothful [man] roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man [is] precious. 27 The lazy man does not roast his game, but the diligent man prizes his possessions.
In the way of righteousness [is] life; and [in] the path [of it there is] no death. 28 In the way of righteousness there is life; along that path is immortality.
