Holman Christian Standard (CSB) New International Version (NIV)
Doesn't Wisdom call out? Doesn't Understanding make her voice heard? 1 Does not wisdom call out? Does not understanding raise her voice?
At the heights overlooking the road, at the crossroads, she takes her stand. 2 On the heights along the way, where the paths meet, she takes her stand;
Beside the gates at the entry to the city, at the main entrance, she cries out: 3 beside the gates leading into the city, at the entrances, she cries aloud:
"People, I call out to you; my cry is to mankind. 4 "To you, O men, I call out; I raise my voice to all mankind.
Learn to be shrewd, you who are inexperienced; develop common sense, you who are foolish. 5 You who are simple, gain prudence; you who are foolish, gain understanding.
Listen, for I speak of noble things, and what my lips say is right. 6 Listen, for I have worthy things to say; I open my lips to speak what is right.
For my mouth tells the truth, and wickedness is detestable to my lips. 7 My mouth speaks what is true, for my lips detest wickedness.
All the words of my mouth are righteous; none of them are deceptive or perverse. 8 All the words of my mouth are just; none of them is crooked or perverse.
All of them are clear to the perceptive, and right to those who discover knowledge. 9 To the discerning all of them are right; they are faultless to those who have knowledge.
Accept my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than pure gold. 10 Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold,
For wisdom is better than precious stones, and nothing desirable can compare with it. 11 for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.
I, Wisdom, share a home with shrewdness and have knowledge and discretion. 12 "I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion.
To fear the Lord is to hate evil. I hate arrogant pride, evil conduct, and perverse speech. 13 To fear the LORD is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.
I possess good advice and competence; I have understanding and strength. 14 Counsel and sound judgment are mine; I have understanding and power.
It is by me that kings reign and rulers enact just law; 15 By me kings reign and rulers make laws that are just;
by me, princes lead, as do nobles [and] all righteous judges. 16 by me princes govern, and all nobles who rule on earth.
I love those who love me, and those who search for me find me. 17 I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.
With me are riches and honor, lasting wealth and righteousness. 18 With me are riches and honor, enduring wealth and prosperity.
My fruit is better than solid gold, and my harvest than pure silver. 19 My fruit is better than fine gold; what I yield surpasses choice silver.
I walk in the way of righteousness, along the paths of justice, 20 I walk in the way of righteousness, along the paths of justice,
giving wealth as an inheritance to those who love me, and filling their treasuries. 21 bestowing wealth on those who love me and making their treasuries full.
The Lord made me at the beginning of His creation, before His works of long ago. 22 "The LORD brought me forth as the first of his works, before his deeds of old;
I was formed before ancient times, from the beginning, before the earth began. 23 I was appointed from eternity, from the beginning, before the world began.
I was brought forth when there were no watery depths and no springs filled with water. 24 When there were no oceans, I was given birth, when there were no springs abounding with water;
I was brought forth before the mountains and hills were established, 25 before the mountains were settled in place, before the hills, I was given birth,
before He made the land, the fields, or the first soil on earth. 26 before he made the earth or its fields or any of the dust of the world.
I was there when He established the heavens, when He laid out the horizon on the surface of the ocean, 27 I was there when he set the heavens in place, when he marked out the horizon on the face of the deep,
when He placed the skies above, when the fountains of the ocean gushed forth, 28 when he established the clouds above and fixed securely the fountains of the deep,
when He set a limit for the sea so that the waters would not violate His command, when He laid out the foundations of the earth. 29 when he gave the sea its boundary so the waters would not overstep his command, and when he marked out the foundations of the earth.
I was a skilled craftsman beside Him. I was His delight every day, always rejoicing before Him. 30 Then I was the craftsman at his side. I was filled with delight day after day, rejoicing always in his presence,
I was rejoicing in His inhabited world, delighting in the human race. 31 rejoicing in his whole world and delighting in mankind.
And now, [my] sons, listen to me; those who keep my ways are happy. 32 "Now then, my sons, listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways.
Listen to instruction and be wise; don't ignore it. 33 Listen to my instruction and be wise; do not ignore it.
Anyone who listens to me is happy, watching at my doors every day, waiting by the posts of my doorway. 34 Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway.
For the one who finds me finds life and obtains favor from the Lord, 35 For whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the LORD.
but the one who sins against me harms himself; all who hate me love death." 36 But whoever fails to find me harms himself; all who hate me love death."
