Proverbs 8 NCV/NIV - Online Parallel Bible

New Century Version (NCV) New International Version (NIV)
Wisdom calls to you like someone shouting; understanding raises her voice. 1 Does not wisdom call out? Does not understanding raise her voice?
On the hilltops along the road and at the crossroads, she stands calling. 2 On the heights along the way, where the paths meet, she takes her stand;
Beside the city gates, at the entrances into the city, she calls out: 3 beside the gates leading into the city, at the entrances, she cries aloud:
"Listen, everyone, I'm calling out to you; I am shouting to all people. 4 "To you, O men, I call out; I raise my voice to all mankind.
You who are uneducated, be smarter. You who are foolish, get understanding. 5 You who are simple, gain prudence; you who are foolish, gain understanding.
Listen, because I have important things to say, and what I tell you is right. 6 Listen, for I have worthy things to say; I open my lips to speak what is right.
What I say is true, I refuse to speak evil. 7 My mouth speaks what is true, for my lips detest wickedness.
Everything I say is honest; nothing I say is crooked or false. 8 All the words of my mouth are just; none of them is crooked or perverse.
People with good sense know what I say is true; and those with knowledge know my words are right. 9 To the discerning all of them are right; they are faultless to those who have knowledge.
Choose my teachings instead of silver, and knowledge rather than the finest gold. 10 Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold,
Wisdom is more precious than rubies. Nothing you could want is equal to it. 11 for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.
"I am wisdom, and I am smart. I also have knowledge and good sense. 12 "I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion.
If you respect the Lord, you will also hate evil. I hate pride and bragging, evil ways and lies. 13 To fear the LORD is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.
I have good sense and advice, and I have understanding and power. 14 Counsel and sound judgment are mine; I have understanding and power.
I help kings to govern and rulers to make fair laws. 15 By me kings reign and rulers make laws that are just;
Princes use me to lead, and so do all important people who judge fairly. 16 by me princes govern, and all nobles who rule on earth.
I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me. 17 I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.
Riches and honor are mine to give. So are wealth and lasting success. 18 With me are riches and honor, enduring wealth and prosperity.
What I give is better than the finest gold, better than the purest silver. 19 My fruit is better than fine gold; what I yield surpasses choice silver.
I do what is right and follow the path of justice. 20 I walk in the way of righteousness, along the paths of justice,
I give wealth to those who love me, filling their houses with treasures. 21 bestowing wealth on those who love me and making their treasuries full.
"I, wisdom, was with the Lord when he began his work, long before he made anything else. 22 "The LORD brought me forth as the first of his works, before his deeds of old;
I was created in the very beginning, even before the world began. 23 I was appointed from eternity, from the beginning, before the world began.
I was born before there were oceans, or springs overflowing with water, 24 When there were no oceans, I was given birth, when there were no springs abounding with water;
before the hills were there, before the mountains were put in place. 25 before the mountains were settled in place, before the hills, I was given birth,
God had not made the earth or fields, not even the first dust of the earth. 26 before he made the earth or its fields or any of the dust of the world.
I was there when God put the skies in place, when he stretched the horizon over the oceans, 27 I was there when he set the heavens in place, when he marked out the horizon on the face of the deep,
when he made the clouds above and put the deep underground springs in place. 28 when he established the clouds above and fixed securely the fountains of the deep,
I was there when he ordered the sea not to go beyond the borders he had set. I was there when he laid the earth's foundation. 29 when he gave the sea its boundary so the waters would not overstep his command, and when he marked out the foundations of the earth.
I was like a child by his side. I was delighted every day, enjoying his presence all the time, 30 Then I was the craftsman at his side. I was filled with delight day after day, rejoicing always in his presence,
enjoying the whole world, and delighted with all its people. 31 rejoicing in his whole world and delighting in mankind.
"Now, my children, listen to me, because those who follow my ways are happy. 32 "Now then, my sons, listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways.
Listen to my teaching, and you will be wise; do not ignore it. 33 Listen to my instruction and be wise; do not ignore it.
Happy are those who listen to me, watching at my door every day, waiting at my open doorway. 34 Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway.
Those who find me find life, and the Lord will be pleased with them. 35 For whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the LORD.
Those who do not find me hurt themselves. Those who hate me love death." 36 But whoever fails to find me harms himself; all who hate me love death."
