The Darby Translation (DBY) New International Version (NIV)
Give ye thanks unto Jehovah; for he is good; for his loving-kindness [endureth] for ever. 1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.
Let the redeemed of Jehovah say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the oppressor, 2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say this-- those he redeemed from the hand of the foe,
And gathered out of the countries, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the sea. 3 those he gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south.
They wandered in the wilderness in a desert way, they found no city of habitation; 4 Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could settle.
Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them: 5 They were hungry and thirsty, and their lives ebbed away.
Then they cried unto Jehovah in their trouble, [and] he delivered them out of their distresses, 6 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.
And he led them forth by a right way, that they might go to a city of habitation. 7 He led them by a straight way to a city where they could settle.
Let them give thanks unto Jehovah for his loving-kindness, and for his wondrous works to the children of men; 8 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men,
For he hath satisfied the longing soul and filled the hungry soul with good. 9 for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.
Such as inhabit darkness and the shadow of death, bound in affliction and iron, 10 Some sat in darkness and the deepest gloom, prisoners suffering in iron chains,
Because they had rebelled against the words of God, and had despised the counsel of the Most High; ... 11 for they had rebelled against the words of God and despised the counsel of the Most High.
And he bowed down their heart with labour; they stumbled, and there was none to help: 12 So he subjected them to bitter labor; they stumbled, and there was no one to help.
Then they cried unto Jehovah in their trouble, [and] he saved them out of their distresses; 13 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.
He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and broke their bands in sunder. 14 He brought them out of darkness and the deepest gloom and broke away their chains.
Let them give thanks unto Jehovah for his loving-kindness, and for his wondrous works to the children of men; 15 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men,
For he hath broken the gates of bronze, and cut asunder the bars of iron. 16 for he breaks down gates of bronze and cuts through bars of iron.
Fools, because of their way of transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted; 17 Some became fools through their rebellious ways and suffered affliction because of their iniquities.
Their soul abhorreth all manner of food, and they draw near unto the gates of death: 18 They loathed all food and drew near the gates of death.
Then they cry unto Jehovah in their trouble, [and] he saveth them out of their distresses; 19 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.
He sendeth his word, and healeth them, and delivereth them from their destructions. 20 He sent forth his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave.
Let them give thanks unto Jehovah for his loving-kindness, and for his wondrous works to the children of men, 21 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men.
And let them offer the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works in joyful song. 22 Let them sacrifice thank offerings and tell of his works with songs of joy.
They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters, 23 Others went out on the sea in ships; they were merchants on the mighty waters.
These see the works of Jehovah, and his wonders in the deep. 24 They saw the works of the LORD, his wonderful deeds in the deep.
For he speaketh, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof: 25 For he spoke and stirred up a tempest that lifted high the waves.
They mount up to the heavens, they go down to the depths; their soul is melted because of trouble; 26 They mounted up to the heavens and went down to the depths; in their peril their courage melted away.
They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and they are at their wits' end: 27 They reeled and staggered like drunken men; they were at their wits' end.
Then they cry unto Jehovah in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses; 28 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress.
He maketh the storm a calm, and the waves thereof are still: 29 He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.
And they rejoice because they are quiet; and he bringeth them unto their desired haven. 30 They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven.
Let them give thanks unto Jehovah for his loving-kindness, and for his wondrous works to the children of men; 31 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men.
Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the session of the elders. 32 Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people and praise him in the council of the elders.
He maketh rivers into a wilderness, and water-springs into dry ground; 33 He turned rivers into a desert, flowing springs into thirsty ground,
A fruitful land into a plain of salt, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein. 34 and fruitful land into a salt waste, because of the wickedness of those who lived there.
He maketh the wilderness into a pool of water, and the dry land into water-springs; 35 He turned the desert into pools of water and the parched ground into flowing springs;
And there he maketh the hungry to dwell, and they establish a city of habitation; 36 there he brought the hungry to live, and they founded a city where they could settle.
And sow fields, and plant vineyards, which yield fruits of increase; 37 They sowed fields and planted vineyards that yielded a fruitful harvest;
And he blesseth them, so that they are multiplied greatly; and he suffereth not their cattle to decrease. 38 he blessed them, and their numbers greatly increased, and he did not let their herds diminish.
And they are diminished and brought low, through oppression, adversity, and sorrow: 39 Then their numbers decreased, and they were humbled by oppression, calamity and sorrow;
He poureth contempt upon nobles, and causeth them to wander in a pathless waste; 40 he who pours contempt on nobles made them wander in a trackless waste.
But he secureth the needy one on high from affliction, and maketh [him] families like flocks. 41 But he lifted the needy out of their affliction and increased their families like flocks.
The upright shall see it, and rejoice; and all unrighteousness shall stop its mouth. 42 The upright see and rejoice, but all the wicked shut their mouths.
Whoso is wise, let him observe these things, and let them understand the loving-kindnesses of Jehovah. 43 Whoever is wise, let him heed these things and consider the great love of the LORD.
