The Message (MSG) New International Version (NIV)
Quick, God, I need your helping hand! The last decent person just went down, All the friends I depended on gone. 1 Help, LORD, for the godly are no more; the faithful have vanished from among men.
Everyone talks in lie language; Lies slide off their oily lips. They doubletalk with forked tongues. 2 Everyone lies to his neighbor; their flattering lips speak with deception.
Slice their lips off their faces! Pull The braggart tongues from their mouths! 3 May the LORD cut off all flattering lips and every boastful tongue
I'm tired of hearing, "We can talk anyone into anything! Our lips manage the world." 4 that says, "We will triumph with our tongues; we own our lips--who is our master?"
Into the hovels of the poor, Into the dark streets where the homeless groan, God speaks: "I've had enough; I'm on my way To heal the ache in the heart of the wretched." 5 "Because of the oppression of the weak and the groaning of the needy, I will now arise," says the LORD. "I will protect them from those who malign them."
God's words are pure words, Pure silver words refined seven times In the fires of his word-kiln, Pure on earth as well as in heaven. 6 And the words of the LORD are flawless, like silver refined in a furnace of clay, purified seven times.
God, keep us safe from their lies, From the wicked who stalk us with lies, 7 O LORD, you will keep us safe and protect us from such people forever.
From the wicked who collect honors For their wonderful lies. 8 The wicked freely strut about when what is vile is honored among men.
