The Message (MSG) New International Version (NIV)
Count yourself lucky, how happy you must be - you get a fresh start, your slate's wiped clean. 1 Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.
Count yourself lucky - God holds nothing against you and you're holding nothing back from him. 2 Blessed is the man whose sin the LORD does not count against him and in whose spirit is no deceit.
When I kept it all inside, my bones turned to powder, my words became daylong groans. 3 When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.
The pressure never let up; all the juices of my life dried up. 4 For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. "Selah"
Then I let it all out; I said, "I'll make a clean breast of my failures to God." Suddenly the pressure was gone - my guilt dissolved, my sin disappeared. 5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD"-- and you forgave the guilt of my sin. "Selah"
These things add up. Every one of us needs to pray; when all hell breaks loose and the dam bursts we'll be on high ground, untouched. 6 Therefore let everyone who is godly pray to you while you may be found; surely when the mighty waters rise, they will not reach him.
God's my island hideaway, keeps danger far from the shore, throws garlands of hosannas around my neck. 7 You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. "Selah"
Let me give you some good advice; I'm looking you in the eye and giving it to you straight: 8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.
"Don't be ornery like a horse or mule that needs bit and bridle to stay on track." 9 Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you.
God-defiers are always in trouble; God-affirmers find themselves loved every time they turn around. 10 Many are the woes of the wicked, but the LORD's unfailing love surrounds the man who trusts in him.
Celebrate God. Sing together - everyone! All you honest hearts, raise the roof! 11 Rejoice in the LORD and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart!
